34:02 I always fear for what tourist guides say in these tours. Saint Catherine was born in Egypt but never saw nothing proving that she was black. Specially coming from Alexandria, which is a city created by the Greeks without as much Ancient Egyptian and Nubian influence as other regions.

The term " Black " is not to be understood here as skin colour, but is chosen by people of African or Afro-diasporic origin as a self-designation in contrast to non-white. Black and white are also understood as a social and political construction. Cannot agree. The guide talks about whitewashing and states clearly that she was a Black woman, which is altering the Egyptian history and culture. The same perspective applied in some platforms to Cleopatra. Nothing I could find was written about St Catherine being non white or even that she was white. Not an issue apparently back then in the recorded stories about that saint. Would like to highlight however that I thoroughly appreciate the rest of the documentary.

Nasci em Angola e vim para Portugal com meus irmãos, fugida de uma guerra terrivel ainda menininha em Janeiro de 1975. Preparei meus filhos a conhecerem o pais de seus pais e todos os anos desde pequenos íam passar férias, para adaptarem-se a vida de Luanda. No tempo em que muitos portugueses iam a correr para Angola em busca de oportunidades, percebi que aquele elo dourado não íamdurar e mais tarde todos iriam regressas, e decidi não ir para Angola. Meus filhos, nasceram, cresceram, estudaram, formaram-se e a 8 e 5 anos emigraram para países top da UE, porque nem em Portugal nem em Angola quiseram ficar. A desigualdade nesses paises é gritante, e não passam pelo mesmo nos países que escolheram viver e terem os seus filhos. Triste é termos de estar distantes fisicamente por causa das desigualdades que impera nas nossas sociedades. Gosto de Portugal, mas vejo a nossa sociedade a decair e a degradar-se, pelo preconceito a vários níveis entre seus patriotas como em relacão a pessoas de origens diferentes, como vejo muitos gritando, querendo voltar ao tempo de Salazar. Que sociedade é esta em que vivemos ? Cedo bem fiz com que meus filhos construissem suas vidas onde podem ter paz, sem serem vitimas do preconceito dos outros.

50 anos de desenfreada rapinagem.

This brings tears to my eyes. I was 16 years old at the time. My parents fought for democracy and freedom. My brothers and I knew that what was said at home couldn't be disclosed outside. I remember being 14 years old and thinking, 'This dictatorship suffocates us.' Boys faced going to the colonial war as soon as they turned 18 years old. Most of them were brought from rural areas with no knowledge of the outside world to Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, to fight for a country that gave them and their families no education, no proper living conditions, no work, nothing. They fought against people who were fiercely and rightly fighting for freedom, independence, and a better future, all in the name of a regime that provided none of these things to them. There was so much misery everywhere that we couldn't disregard that our country was dying at the hands of the dictatorship's rulers. I lived through the momentous times that followed the 25th April military coup. The real revolution that took place everywhere, in the cities, in the countryside, in factories, in schools. We eagerly embraced the freedom given to us by the Captains' Movement. We learned how to live in a democracy in just a couple of years, catching up for our decades-old lateness compared to Europe. I dearly miss all my loved ones who lived with me through those times, having spent almost all their lives in oppression and who have already passed away.

Lived through same event as a 6 year old in LM and having to flee and leave our home to avoid being slaughtered. Had no clue what was going on, just a frightened young Portuguese kid. Had nightmares for a long time after.

Seu pai falava que não podia falar na rua era mais um comunista, aqueles que punham bombas nos caixotes do lixo onde o povo passava para trabalhar e levavam com uma bomba posta por essa seita chamados comunistas criminosos. Em minha casa meu pai sempre falava de tudo e nada era proibido , a politica não estavamos nem aí----queriamos lá saber disso. Em relação á miséria que voce diz eu não via assim tanta miséria-voce deveria viver no barraco, hoje moram outros , então á muita miséria. Eu trabalhava tinha meu ordenado bem pequeno mas dava para viver muito melhor que hoje 50 vezes mais. Vai CAGAR

The most beautiful day of the year, April 25. Thanks to all that made this day/revolution possible. I was only one year old, so i didn't experience dictatorship (and i hope not to ever experience it). But the revolution has to be made daily, that's why April 25th is always alive .

This is the best documentary I have seen related to the fall of the dictatorship in Portugal, and especially detailing how the birth of this revolution started in Africa in the portuguese colonies, where those ground down people fought mightily for their independence, and the soldiers began to realize, why are we not fought fighting for our own independence in our own country? What are we doing here? And so they went back and organized for a secret military coup, but it turned out so much bigger than that, and nonviolent, and it was over in a day, and they freed their colonies that same day, it’s incredible. The incredible history of Portugal! So happy to be living here.

Não esquecer que a dita revolução de Abril de 74 só começou por aqueles militares do regime, fartos de subir na hierarquia militar, mas que Marcelo nao acedeu aos seus desejos que era dar aumento a eles e não valorizar os milicianos que eram os que realmente batiam com os costados em África. Pois os outros do quadro só subiam de posto sem nada fazerem. Marcelo fez bem--igualou os verdadeiros militares milicianos aos do quadro, eles ficaram bravos, ainda foram falar com Marcelo , mas ele não cedeu a esses oportunistas. Então fizeram um golpe por uma questão salarial , passando a imagem que foi pela liberdade, quando eles tinham toda liberdade do mundo. É que andam a enganar estas criançinhas que foi pela liberdade. No one wants to talk about that. They made Africans suffer for centuries. Maybe this was God giving them a taste of their own medicine. Africans suffered for centuries under the Portuguese. Not a single tear for thousands of Portuguese girls kidnapped, taken to northern Africa and turned into sex slaves?!! Are your tears exclusively for Africa?!! Stop being an idiot. Portuguese didn't do any different from what everyone else was doing back then. Africans didn't colonize nobody overseas because they didn't have technology to cross the oceans but you just have to look at what was going on in Africa when the Europeans arrived there (they were all involved in tribal wars and killing and enslaving each other? In the fistt contact Columbus had with natives, they asked him to help them exterminate the tahini tribe). Africans didn't live in peace and in fact, over 80%of the African population back then we're slaves (people who were brought to Europe and America were already slaves before the Europeans bought them and would be slaves for their entire lives even if Europeans hadn't showd up.

Antonio, you need to go and live somewhere else for a while, to realise just how beautiful your country truly is. Look for the good and you will see it everywhere. Nowhere is perfect, but Portugal is as close as anywhere I've ever seen on this Earth.
