I can draw portraits with a graphite pencil. I've tried charcoal stick, conte pencil & powder, but it's not easy for me. Hopefully there is progress with practice. I have to keep practicing. Keep practicing. I started with graphite, as well. Overtime, you get used to charcoal.

I see the use of PAPER STUMPS of 2 different types ( or more ). One big one is used to mark dark big area by the edge of the CONE of the PAPER STUMP. This coupled with Charcoal powder / Dust is almost 90% of the total filling. 10% is filling in pencil the finer edges & DARK LINES. Rest is Kneaded eraser + removal of dust. If I am wrong I request the artist to correct this. I also request him to write about the big stump & the Big Black patches.

! I have been trying to find a way to find out more about this man ever since I saw his charcoal work - some of the most inspired artwork I've seen but could only ever find the name you just mentioned. Does he have a website, any platforms you could share? I gave up looking a while ago but then I found this comment
