I can’t seem to find it on your channel. Where is it?
The conversation between Mr. Portillo and Lorca's niece was heartbreaking., especially when recalling the painful memories of how his dad was not allowed back into Spain until 1959. Horrific! However, His mom seems to have been totally committed to making sure that her children should all get to know their dad's homeland. Extremely touching. In the end, so many innocent lives were forever destroyed by Spain's unforgivingly cruel civil war. What a beautiful country and yet with such tragic recent history a mere 88 years ago. Thankfully, Spain is an infinitely more open-minded and liberal society nowadays. God bless the Spanish people.
We have just spent last November in Spain and Portugal and can say with confidence that no other city in the Iberic peninsula is more beautiful than Granada. We can't wait to return. Thanks Michael for such a great program.
It's been a gloomy Christmas Day, 2023, but then KZread gives me a Michael Portillo video about Andalusia...There is a Santa Claus!!!😊

Did visit Granada 54 years ago and we had the lucky chance that there was room in the Parador it was hors season. After diner we took a stroll into the garden and some young people who lived inside the compounds were singing spontaneous the most famous song of Granada. Almost a fairytale that will stay in my memory for the rest of my life.

I was in Granada in 2019 , so beautiful, this has reminded me that I must return!
I first visited Granada back in 1972, saw this on a wall and it has stayed with me since then. "Dale limosna mujer, que no hay en la vida nada, como la pena de ser ciego en Granada."
A very emotional and memorable visit to a city and region filled with history and drama. Thank you for baring your heart and sharing your personal feelings as well with us. ¡Gracias!
Mucho gracias, Senor Portillo!!

I watched this on the train from Madrid to Granada. So I had dinner at the Chikita restaurant and had the snails (it’s January so the salad and gazpacho weren’t really appealing). We ate the Pio Nono cakes (lovely), looked at the Parador even though it was out of our budget, and went to an authentic Flamenco similar to his. And we saw the Alhambra with the backdrop of the snow capped Sierra Nevadas. He’s right it is the best way to see it.
I'm facsinated by the roofed private courtyard, so spanish and Don Quixote style.
Dear Mr. Michael I have love your video of Andalusia Spain. It is absolutely beautiful and very educating. Thank you. All the best for the new year. 🤗🥰

My father was a drug dealer and my mother an uneducated simpleton, I never heard the name of Oxford before the age of 30 . I have never met a poet or a revolutionary man with grand ideas that come from an ancient family. However I own now the largest estate in the south of Spain

Michael, your videos are interesting though when you talked about Spanish culture you mentioned bulls. I certainly hope you don't agree with and propogate bull fighting. Culture is culture but animal cruelty is beyond reasoning. Gail, Czech Republic.

More political/personsal, not the best for travel
He is so woke , can't believe he was a Conservative.
one can sense the political correctness and bashing against christianity in this documentary. It’s exhausting and ridiculous.
As a Black American, I'm intentfully curious as to why I never heard you use the term "Moorish?" Instead, you continually used the terms "Muslim" and "Islamic" throughout this episode, and seemingly intentionally so as if the word "Moorish" was a term of opprobrium and/or dreadful disdain. For me, this comes off as archaically elitist and institutionally racist. And I hope you are astutely cognizant of the fact that the term "12-beat Moorish rhythm," which is the one of the hallmarks of Flamenco music and dance, isn't called the "12-beat Islamic rhythm." The *MOORS* are the North African people of Berber descent (as was the Afro-Syrian Severan Dynasty founder, the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus) who conquered and ruled Spain from AD 711 to 1492, and introduced Islam to the Iberian peninsula! *And don't you ever forget that!*
