Here in NC on Saturday night there were three shows that we always watched. Porter Wagoner, Flat and Scruggs and the Wilburn Brothers. I don't remember the order. At some point I had to get dressed in my formal outfit so I could go out and play. I played bass in a local rock and roll band and I would watch these shows fully dressed to perform until I just had to go. Country music back in those days was written mainly for the older generation but I enjoyed them just the same. I am now 68, and I still play but there is no music written for us now days. I'm sorry for that.

Stonewall Jackson is a favorite of mine. He has one of the best voices ever for country music. So authentic. And he wrote a lot of great songs. "Washed My Hands in Muddy Water" is perhaps his best of many.

This takes me back to my childhood in the mountains of Leslie County KY. We had a TV antenna at the top of the mountain with a booster....when the antenna was positioned just right and the weather was good we'd get all 3 network channels from Knoxville TN. I loved watching the Porter Wagoner Show, Cas Walker, Hee Haw and the Bonnie Lou and Buster Show. If I could only go back to those wonderful days of my childhood!!

George McCormick was a legend in his own right. A rock solid rhythym player, he also worked with Wilma Lee and Stony Cooper, the Louvin Brothers and Grandpa Jones. The Wagon Masters were a great band, and George was a big part of their distinctive sound. Don Howser, by the way, was the announcer for the show.
