    Fun fact: GLaDos' voice actress is a trained, actively working opera singer It's also really funny that they got Mike Patton in exclusively to voice the anger sphere, he's the lead singer pretty famous band Faith No More

    You probably know by now, but GLaD was spelled this way because her name is GLaDOS - Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System.

    You might not know this, but nearly every acronym created like this generally was workshopped back and forth until they came upon a pairing of words that made a silly acronym. "Glad OS" to describe an operating system that is both emotionless and depressed, is a wonderful joke. They just had to find the right words to make it work.

    The similarities between cave Johnson on Elon musk are pretty funny when you consider they both basically rely on engineers way smarter than them to come up with the tech behind their ridiculous ambitions and rarely make anything actually marketable that people want/need

    Yeah, that line doesn't get mentioned enough. I love it. That line would usually be "We do what we can because we must". Meaning, to me, that we will try our best to do something because it is a moral imperative. The line "We do what we must because we can" implies that because they have the capability of doing something they must attempt it. It is the mantra of the mad scientist.

    If you ever watch Pacific Rim, the same voice actress for GLaDOS provides the voice for the computer system that activates the Jaegers (giant robots), and she does it in exactly the same voice as GLaDOS, but without the personality.

    To find this song at the end of such a fun game, without expecting it, is such an absolute treat. It's viral now but for the first generation of portal players it was a real "if you know, you know" moment. And believe me, I am still alive.

    Also they desperately need an option to TURN OFF THE RADIOS AFTER YOU BEAT THE GAME. I spent an hour scouring forums and trying to mod this out to get the original aesthetic back... and I couldn't do it. It's ridiculous every chamber is pierced by that same song over and over and over.

    I originally found this song on KZread like a decade ago. I didn't know anything about Portal, I just knew about "the cake is a lie" meme, so I searched "the cake is a lie" and found this song. Obviously, it didn't explain anything, but I kept the song on my playlist, anyway.

    Just so you know, the company that throws copyright claims at this song is not Valve, who actually owns the song and openly allows players to publish Let's Plays. It's a bunch of copyright trolls, usually one called Orchard Music. If it happens again, you should dispute it.

    @@kevthajum The game never says her name explicitly, even in the subtitles. I think you can maybe read it on her in the final boss battle, or at least in the wreckage after you defeat her, but it's pretty subtle and easy to miss.
