Port of Halifax - Past and Present

For over 250 years the Port of Halifax has been a cornerstone of economic activity for the city, the region and the province as a whole. The Port’s strategic location made Halifax an ideal Gateway into North America for settlers and shippers and a perfect vantage point for military operations.
Today, the world’s largest shipping lines call on the Port of Halifax, connecting the port to more than 150 countries. Collaborating and working with strong partners and stakeholders, the Port of Halifax is a significant economic enabler in Nova Scotia, generating $2 billion in economic output each year.

    Thank you. A very informative video. You mentioned shipping and different milestones for the harbour. A new one happened just last month. May 17 /2021 the largest cargo ship ever to visit the harbour. The Marco Polo container ship. Which can hold over 16,000 20ft. containers. (many videos online of the event). Great news for the harbour, the city and the country.

    War put Halifax on the map, now the economy is dying and 55% of the people who are employed work for the Federal or provincial government. The manufacturing plants closed, then food and agriculture. The lobster and fish processing plants are being sold off to the Chinese. The city of Halifax sold the waterfront to a developer to put up a condo building and get rid of small business.

    worry not!!! halifax has found its revival by herding in wealthy people "from away" while displacing its original population.
