Port of Dallas | Julia Barton | TEDxSMU
From its founding, Dallas fully intended to become a port city with river access to the Gulf of Mexico. We’ll hear the story of that quest, which reached epic proportions before it failed, and why it shouldn’t be forgotten.

Julia Barton has been one of my Public Radio favorites for years...I just didn't know it until I met her at TEDx and then looked through her pieces on her website. I'm so glad she brought her story-telling back to Dallas for this great piece!
Great story, excellent storytelling!
'Snag boat Dallas of Dallas' sounds like the beginning of an Onion article. This is such a strange slice of history! I love it.
Here's a Dallas story you haven't heard before.
I believe every city must have a story like this: a grand flop of an idea. Thank you Julia Barton for uncovering this lost history of boosterism and - I know it's not a Texan word, but it applies - chutzpah! I think I like Dallas a little more for having seen this.
this is a lame ted talk, :I

+Jeffrey Turner Meh. Julia Barton is one of the best radio producers working today, and I vastly prefer people like her to the pop scientists and motivational hucksters that usually give Ted talks.
