The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

I've been to Port Hudson. It was many years ago. I may have to go back. My grandmother's family had a home right across from the battlefield and they gave help to the soldiers during the battle.

That's awesome
My Gr-Gr-Grandfather was a Confederate defender of Port Hudson with the 1st Mississippi Light Artillery during the siege and was captured there. I had the privilege of participating as a Confederate re-enactor in the original works of Fort Desperate at Port Hudson State Historical Park in 1991. Great memories.
Got to walk the fort and reenact as the 4th Wisconsin at Port Hudson, its a really cool place!
Donald Frazier's books on the fighting in Lousina is a key part of my collection. well written, fun read...made me appreciate the fighting in that area so much more.
Thank you, thank you for doing this! I did my graduate thesis on a Confederate unit at Port Hudson.
Born in Massachusetts Port Hudson has always fascinated me. Out shinned by Vicksburg and Gettysburg.
I've been there many times. Once we took a hike along the area where the Mississippi River once flowed.
Finally a full dose Garry Adelman again (been absent too often in quite a few of the latest ABT videos)- the energy and enthusiasm in his presentation(s) is contagious, unrivaled and second to none. Great job, well done! 👏

@@carywest9256 Actually, he drinks decaf coffee. Some people are naturally hyper. I sure wish I was! Imagine what I can get done!😅
Great. Thank you.
It’s so amazing seeing places that you know your ancestors saw and fought in. Thank you guys again for the amazing work!
Thank you for knowing your audience Garry. The American Battlefield Trust educates and inspires me. Gratitude to you all!
The South will never be the same... Garry Adelman invades Port Hudson.... Gotta love it....but hey, what happen to the tractor?! LOL...😳... distinctly heard the voice ....plow on boys, plow on!!
I reenacted that battle as a teenager. It was awesome!
So thankful Port Hudson is getting its due. It was such an important seige and really has so much educational value. Thank you for making the Mississippi swing!!! There is a great confederate cemetery across the state around Quitman, then you have the whole Free State Of Jones situation, so much history no one really shows too much of.

I had just watched TFSOJ finally because of a YT reactor, and I'm glad I did. It was all economics and the struggle to survice.
SAVE OUR BATTLEFIELDS AMERICA 🇺🇸
Gary, I'm in Vicksburg now because of these 160 videos!
In the eastern campaign, the rebels called Nathaniel Banks by the nickname, 'Commissary Banks', because his troops left so many supplies as they retreated after fighting.

Correction: When he knew he stepped on his manhood. He and his staff would leave the troops well behind in full retreat. He earned the moniker Commissary Banks after his first encounter with Jackson in the Shenandoah Valley.
My three times great grandfather, Constantine Montgomery, was a confederate soldier that surrendered at the siege of Port Hudson. My mom has copies of his letters home.
Glad you made it to Port Hudson Garry! It's nice Civil War battlefield park... although only part of the battlefield.
Thanks! Love it!
Gettysburg, Vicksburg... Port Hudson was the nail in the coffin.
Go Daniel!!
Was just there last week, but was too late in the day to see the whole thing.
My father lives near there, so we always go
I need to get back to the mighty Mississippi!
Great Stuff.
Nice job explaining an area of the Civil War that gets so little attention these days...
I work next door on the peoples property who donated that land to be that park. I see the coolest stuff in those woods
The story of the USS Mississippi is very epic
Speaking of California, are you guys planning to do some videos on the campaign in New Mexico? I guess the battles were much smaller scale, but it seems to be such an overlooked part of the war.

Maybe some simple ones this fall or winter.
My 2X Great Grandfather fought there with Co.K, Abbay's Battery, 1st MS Light Artillery. I don't know exactly where at Port Hutson he was stationed. He fought at the Plains Store in a stalling action.

Mine too! Co. K, 1st Miss. Lt. Artillery. Pvt. Isaac P. Slayton. That’s wild. Our ancestors served side by side. Small world.
The 75 NY vol regt was there? wow? Ive never covered all of the battles just tidbits
I can dig that Pontiac aztex comparison
Are the naval battle recreations and presentations on video?
✌
Grant and Banks took the Mississippi.

along with Admirals Porter and Farragut. A true army navy collaboration.
5000 Northern soldiers died of disease during that short duration, from diphtheria and maybe measles etc. Those poor guys from Vermont and New Hampshire were not acclimated at all. They died in small numbers all the way during the long trek back home.
Charleston was the longest siege
The battle that involved the LA US or 35 USCT? right the LA REGT brigade dus Afrique!
So the commander at Vicksburg and Port Hudson were both born yankees. Conspiracy theories will be coming from all directions! Galvanized Confederates gave up the River.

Yet it was the coward Joseph E Johnston who had an army of nearly 40,000 that did nothing in Jackson because he didn't want his reputation tarnished.

@@fateagle4life His rep had been tarnished from all that crayfishing in Virginia up until Fair Oaks/Seven Pines. He should have took the hint from Hood, when told to feel out the enemy. Those Texicans gave a good showing too, ran the bluebellies right back to their gunboats at Eltham's Landing.
