what a coincidence that i found this video and you're malaysian - i bought a 981S too after moving to California from Malaysia! planning on adding the PSE on my car and was looking for some sound clips

A Malaysian brother in the states, that's very rare man. I did a road trip in California 2 years ago, there are some very nice roads to drive there especially in the Cayman and add in that perfect weather , its the recipe for a perfect day. Hope the clips helped, in my opinion its the best option for the car, just makes the car that more sporty while remaining classy. Stay safe over there and enjoy your car, hope to hear the good news of you adding the PSE.

Hey mate, any advice, tossing up between around a 2015 model of either Cayman 981 S, Jag F Type R, or the Lexus LC 500, all similar priced with around 40,000 miles on it, the Cayman sounds like the answer, except the other two seem to have an amazing v8 roar and luxury inside? Will be test driving then soon, just started looking

Great vid man! Thanks for filming all the permutations. I think the car with the PSE off is still loud with pops and crackles, and with the valves open not much louder. I have a 981 Cayman S with standard exhaust. It’s pretty quiet which is good on long journeys. Actually at 2000 rpm I can’t hear the exhaust only tyre roar. I thought that the PSE would be similar to mine with valves closed but I think they are totally different systems. Gonna keep mine quiet I think, or I could regret it. Regards..

It isn't that loud from the cabin, but at 2-2.3k rpm, under load on 7th, you can hear a bit of the exhaust sound in the cabin (bassy noise). The PSE is a quite a bit louder on valves open compared to the standard exhaust and produces more pronounced crackles on sports mode. I think it depends on your usage and your tolerance on cabin noise.

Hi Justin, nice video bro! I was wondering if you would consider doing a drive-by and acceleration comparison between a Cayman without PSE and a Cayman with PSE turned off. I think it would be interesting to hear the differences. Cheers

I'll try and get that done if i can get my hands behind a Cayman without PSE, most of the ones i come across have modified exhaust systems or PSE.

I also have a 981. Be prepared for a heavy bill at 60,000km. That’s when you probably have to change ignition coils, spark plugs and transmission fluid + oil pan. Coils cost around RM 2400 for 6 and spark plugs were slightly cheaper. The transmission fluid change will cost around RM 3k-4k.

Hi Justin, great video. Correct me if I am wrong - there is a huge difference between sport and normal mode. Opening exhaust flaps makes almost no difference. It look like the crucial is engine mode for the sound.

No difference in sound, very similar engine architecture , both are DFI.

Very similar sound in 2.7 with PSE, I can confirm. Except sport plus mode here is a step up....

Like, though beginning to feel a bit sorry for neighbours. Btw, do you know what causes that misfiring, bubbling sound as the engine derevs?

In Sport and Sport + mode, Porsche programs those artificial burbles to occur when you downshift. They are significantly quieter in comfort mode.

Havent heard the v6 from the f type in real life properly , but the flat six has a more unique tone to it as porsche is the only manufacturer using this layout, imo both cars sound lovely .

@@justinc9543 the 981 was never made to win 0-100s - it shines at high revs on the motorway

2:01 such a shame car makers are adding these fake "brap pop brap pop brap" noises on gear changes, to simulate overrun. i thought only BMW did it on their "look-at-me" models, but now Porsche has done it :( shameful. suppose that just adds value to the older, more pure, models.
