+daniele d'arconte thanks! Best I could find with a quick Google is someone that used an OBD2 reader connected to a 2002 986 and found the fans came on low speed at 212F and high speed at 216F. They switch off at 205F.

@@HelpMeDIY thank you,my low speed turns on at 102 celsius,than stops at 98.but in a hot day i was going to mountain and i read 107.without earing high speed turns on.but high speed turns on when i turn on my air cond,so i suppose high speed works,but the temp i think is too high

Draining the system thru the yellow arrowed Torx 30 plug is easier than disconnecting hoses and the rate can be controlled by the vent switch in the trunk. Once hot, It may take 3 brief circuits around the neighborhood to burp air out of the system with the overflow bottle cap left loose. Each of the 3 short trips may invite addition of about a liter more antifreeze. If/when level in bottle falls below "min" a red light will flash next to temp needle on dashboard to invite you to stop and add. Seems idling in place does not shake/burp air out of the system, but car movements (driving around) do. if a 4th trip indicates all the air got out and level is between min and max, then it's time to tighten the filler cap and shut off the vent switch, If you used only 3 gallons instead of 4 it means 1 old gallon was trapped in, but since the recommended antifreeze has a life expectancy of 5 years or 150000 miles, overall the 75% new mix will still offer very good corrosion protection and conditioning for the pump's rotary seal.

Thank you for your video! Now I know why my cap space looks wet and I have to keep on filling the coolant liquid! I was always checking for stains on the floor but never found any. I am now getting a new cap!

Can you do one one changing out the chain tensioners and/or the manual transmission oil ? Not a ton of clear info on how to do this. Your videos have helped me save $ and understand the car better. Nice video, especially coloring the flow appropriately. Should you consider an update of this video to add the info given in the comments regarding bleed valve, I'd like to add the following tidbit about the thermostat. You colored the path of the cooled coolant out of the radiator into the thermostat and out of it into the water pump. This could be understood by the uninformed that it's the coolant's temperature that controls the opening/closing of the thermostat. This is not the case. It is controlled by the temperature of the coolant tee'd off from its pathway to the radiator, into the thermostat (partially colored red @11:22, saw what you did there! 😀). It flows through the thermostat back into the waterpump*. As soon as the coolant has reached ~80°C/180F, or whatever the specced temp of the thermostat, it will start to open a little thus letting cold(er) coolant into the stream into the water pump and into the engine. *it must flow through the thermostat and back into the waterpump as else there would be no feed into the waterpump in cases when the engine is warming up (I.e. thermostat closed) whilst at the same time the A/C is on (because that shuts off the flow through the heat exchanger, the only alternative path back to the water pump).

The coolant level should be checked with the engine running. It will always be "low" when the engine is off.

That was super. I have just bought a RS 60 2008 3.4S. I have the 101 projects. I also have the Bently service manual. Any extra information I can look up. I lost a little coolant. But think the dealer didn’t put the coolant cap on fully. I’ve got a new cap on the way. But it’s a .00 , so must get a .04

Coolant collection tube?

I found oil in my coolant. The head gasket has been done so I'm guessing it must be Oil cooler. Is there anything else could leak oil into coolant: water/oil pump?

we have problems temperature is always up, in our car hot water is not turning from back to front radiator and big pipes are all cold we changed radiator and termostat but it did not help

I'm not certain but my guess is that the two "valves" in the diagram at position #10 are the coolant cap and the bleeder.

As a side note, I believe that the squiggly symbol above those valves is the symbol for pressure relief, which would confirm my supposition.

Valve number 10 looks like the manual venting valve which is located underneath the plastic shield up on the expansion tank. That is manually operated to let the trapped air escape from the circuit after the circuit has been flushed up and refilled.

Guys- NEED HELP. My 2003 is leaking coolant only while idling. Last week, I added about a gallon of distilled water as I didn't see a reading on the 'min max' near the full line. I hoping this is the system handling an overfilled situation. Any idea's or advice?

@@josefbleaux6724 I see. "only when idling" infers to me that you mean it's not leaking when it's running, not at idle. Which is not what you meant. Which makes more sense. You mean it's only leaking while the engine is running. So when it's pressurized you have a leak somewhere. Now just look around and figure out where it's coming from.

My Boxster just had a major coolant leak..I’m trying to save some money and figure it out myself , one night I did a long pull with the tiptronic trans and I noticed the temp light blink, next thing you know there’s tons of smoke and all my coolant is like Niagara Falls , when I add more it just keeps coming out to 0
