PORSCHE 911 CARRERA T: A MARKETING EXERCISE?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I won't lie to you. I love Porsche and specifically the 911. I could defend them to the hilt, but one that I couldn't defend is the Carrera T. It seemed like a marketing exercise to shift shells and make room for the 992 model (which we have now).
The 991 model range is now an old and out of production. But I still wanted to have a go in one as this could maybe the one to have, or not.
Enjoy.

    YES SID! A truly brilliant car review, one of the best thats ended up on KZread over the last few months. Great cinematography and a brilliant well considered opinion on the car which goes against the grain of every seemingly 'paid promotion' influencer 'review' littering the internet at the moment. Not every car is perfect and thats absolutely fine... The 911T is a great fun little sports car but does have it's points of confusion and is maybe not the car which people have interpreted it as.

    Basic 911 with driver focused bits and a bit of weight savings. Been begging for this model. What is not to like? It is perfect IMO.

    the weight saving is an absolute joke. it's 15kg on a 1430kg car! it's a marketing exercise. the genius was the rear glass that lets in more noise and psycologically makes people think they are in a racier car.

    Nice review. I am enjoying my Carrera T. It’s a very fun road car. The base engine is plenty for me on public roads, and I am not sure if I will ever take it on the track. Since T stands for Touring, I am content with the 18 way seats for me and my occasional passenger. The sport buckets look great and seem comfortable but I didn’t think it was necessary. If I could change anything, I would trade the 7 speed gear box for a 6 speed. The whole “light weight” marketing ploy is just that. It’s just another very satisfying 911 and I hope to keep it for a long time. I enjoy my road trips in it and ripping around the SoCal canyons. Greetings from another former Fiesta ST owner .

    Great video. Carrera T has always intrigued me. I was told back when they were launched there was some tasty finance deals available. That would tie into your verdict saying it would be a great Porsche for first time buyers. While it’s a good car it can’t match a 500BHP NA flat six that screams to 9k.

    New subscriber! Great video on what I believe is the best 911 in the range! I saw your 996.2GT3 video first, and was intrigued you seemed to like it so much, as I’ve owned one of those a couple of years back and found it too much for normal roads and not at all very confidence inspiring as my (manual of course) blue(!) T is. Performance figures are equal, but in no doubt you’ll be a lot quicker in the T. On track also, because of the low down torque and the fact you can bloody floor it whenever wherever you want to do so, without loosing it. That is, after getting rid of the Pirellis and swapping them for PS4S’s. I noticed yours didn’t have sport chrono, maybe that’s why you were a bit reluctant to embrace it? I also got RAS, 18 sport seats and rear seats which make it make it so incredibly much more useful than say a GT3 Touring or a 2-seater T like yours. Just drop the seats if you need more luggage space and I drive it as a daily with my boys in the back, also in the winter with studded tyres. It’s flipping brilliant! I’ve parked my Insignia and go everywhere in the small Porsche. The tweeks Porsche did to the T is enough to make it stand out from the crowd of "boring" S, 4S and GTS’s. And the sound is A LOT better in the T than in the GTS I’ve also driven quite many miles in. The 7-spd should’ve been a 6 cog of course, but is infinitely better than the irritatingly high revving PDK box which deprives one of reveling in the power build up and glorious sounds the 3.0 biturbo makes through the intake tube to the cabin. And the S-PASM just makes it so planted in all situations, coupled to the rear mech diff locker that keeps the rears synchronized through hairpins in perfect slides like pictured in your video. This and many other features isn’t available in the base Carrera. And I’ve never experienced brake fade on the steel discs during the track days I’ve attended. Maybe your friend needs to practice track braking and not hover the brake pedal? Of course if Porsche produced a 4-seater GT3 Touring...

    Sid amazing video content and candid opinions on where the T fits into the Porsche line up. I can defend the Carrera T. I was intrigued with the combination of the Carrera T equipment, having owned a 1971 Carrera T, 964 C2 and 928S4. I was searching for an engaging daily driver AND weekend track car. I was looking for a car with personality, lightweight and pure, not tech laden with PDK or RAS. I built my T with limited options, Miami Blue, GT Silver interior and Bose. I chose this model because of the drive-train, mechanical limited slip differential, shorter S gearing, short shifter, lower SPASM suspension & sports exhaust. For me, the Carrera T is perfect. It feels like it has a naturally aspirated engine (compared to the larger turbo engines in the S and GTS) and it certainly has its place in the 991 line up as the farewell model with a unique look and sporty features. The Carrera T was the last of the narrow bodied 991 chassis with an extremely low production run of perhaps 2,000 vehicles. It's especially rewarding to drive on B roads, canyon runs and it's very capable on the race track too.

Also 13:45 about the gearbox, I've always wondered why Sam from SeenThroughGlass didn't get the regular Carrera/Carrera S, if he opted to get his DriveTheWorld car in PDK...but oh well, its his money and not mine.

    Hi Sid, great vid. I was under the impression the 911 991 T was partly conceived to try and sell off all the surplus 991 body shells they had left over when they moved to the 992 body shape? A bit like Audi’s R8 RWS model.

    I don't understand why when reviewers talk about the PCCBs, they talk about the benefits on the track. Yes, they have incredible stopping power, and zero fade after repeated stops- but every. single. person I know that tracks their car swaps out the PCCBs with iron brakes. These things perform so well on the street, where the reduced weight of the brake assembly really makes a difference in suspension performance- that is where they truly shine. Under normal driving conditions, the rotors will outlast the car (I just replaced the front pads on my PCCB equipped 997.1 at 110,000kms, and the rotors are still at 96% thickness. Plus, you *never* have to scrub brake dust again.

    My friends, I am Porsche lover from many years ago, I’ve owned several models and today I own a Lizard green 991.2 GT3RS, a Guards Red 991.2 GT2RS and Yellow CarreraT with pretty the same specs of the sample on video but plus Bucket seats and Cobb Tune +Akrapovic full exhaust! (515hp 485tq) The reason I shared all this info with you is only to tell you that I’m know what I’m talking about, and let me tell you what is my impression, the T is my favorite one! I will get rid of the the couple of RS in some point of time after put some rubber on the track !!! But my T will stay with me long long time!! I love my T !!! Great video review!! Thanks. Great review but the USP, for me, is that it is the best 911 for driving - other than NA variants. Why? Well you can rev the nuts off it, giving the closest NA response in present turbo iterations, better than the sludgy S and even squishier GTS versions. All for a reasonable price. The “weight saving” choices by Porsche are just annoying nonsense.

  • @JulienFruchier
    @JulienFruchier3 ай бұрын

    Awesome video. Opinion? Not so much. 911s are all sum-of-parts cars. The new T is no different. It's a tragedy they called it a T because it's not really the successor to the original T but the successor to the 3.2 Club Sport. Too bad BMW now owns the rights to that name. A Carrera with less weight, more sound, and performance bits is a marketing exercise? Ok.
