Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS - Laguna Seca -
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Thanks to BR Racing for assisting in car setup.
My fastest lap of the day from an afternoon session, followed by a little surprise T2 drift.
This was my first time running at Laguna Seca post-repave. It rained the day before and overnight, leading to gradually drying conditions in the morning. The course never felt fully clean, though, so I was hesitant to fully commit to use of the exit curbs in a few places. In many of those same places (T2, T3, T5, T11), traction control was a major limiting factor, and on this lap in particular, I misjudged the entry to the corkscrew and lost several tenths from there to the exit of T9. In retrospect I wish I had taken steps into the uncomfortable earlier in the day.
Based on the feel of the car last weekend at autocross and this weekend at Laguna Seca, I may try softening the rear a bit to assist with on-throttle stability. Clearly I've also got to stick to running on track with TC disabled, though this didn't feel like the right day to jump right in. I should also note that I don't know how much of this was condition specific.
As ever, I'm looking forward to giving this another go soon.
Thanks also to SP Motorsports for hosting this run group.
Only modification: Yokohama Advan A052 in OEM sizes.

Thanks for sharing that’s ripping fast for a street car!
Insane lap! Dream car on the dream track. 🙌
Love that drift at the end ;). Wicked fun my friend.
Wow, great lap, made that look so easy. I’m back at 1:39 with my GT4 and trying to get down to 1:37. You’re flying.

Slow hands on turn in, working with what the car has to give; quick hands when balancing at the limit of group. When done right, I'm not fighting the car and it should look relatively easy.

@@teddyframheinagree, and I know from my own laps, the videos don’t represent all that’s going on when you can’t feel the cars wiggles and G forces. I think I have similar apex speeds (except T6, I’m just slow at T6) but I’m braking too soon and getting back to throttle too late.
Mamma frikin mia!!! Whatta lap, love the drift around turn 2 after 🔥🔥🔥
Absolutely insane. If I could consistently pound these laps out on iRacing in GT4s I'd be extremely pleased with myself, let alone doing it in real life.
That was a proper lap, well done 👍
Veeeeeeery nice lap time!!!! Sweet drift on Andretti!!

Great driving! The car seems so stable. And entry is smooth.
Very impressive!
Man, what a lap! I remember when a 100s lap was a good lap time. This was a 91s, amazing!

You're right! To be fair, that lap was pre-repave. I expect to go faster still given the opportunity (clear track).
wow, they made a real life track out of a GT map

Impressive driving! You get to full throttle, fast, on corner exit! Nicely done.

Porsches, even the Cayman, do power down at corner exit very well :).

@@teddyframhein You're a far better driver than I am! I just did the 2-day Porsche Performance course at Barber Motorsports Park in February and now I'm eager to go back for the Masters course. Would love to have a car of my own to take to our local track. Keep posting as I really enjoy your videos.

That's awesome. Enjoy! Most everything Porsche builds is - in my experience - excellent, so whatever you eventually jump into I'm sure you'll be happy. I'll continue to post as I make progress with the new car.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wow that was awesome, let me go do that on Forza and cry.
Thats some great driving! Anyone know why in the US you must drive with windows fully down? For reference, in the UK we have to track with windows fully up and wear long sleeves.

Thanks! We had some good discussion on this elsewhere in the comments. I wish we could run with windows up, and probably should have been wearing long sleeves (but won't go so far as to wear my old racing suit in a road car).
Awesome lap. Love to see racechrono pro getting some love. Are you using any external sensors with it?

Yes - a kiwi OBD2 adapter and the RaceBox Mini you can see sitting on the dash.

@@teddyframhein Hi, which OBD2 adapter? Any noticeable lag with it?
@teddyframhein

I have a kiwi 4. There's slight delay between it and the RaceBox that I haven't bothered trying to account for, and then typically a second or so delay between data and video that I manually adjust before exporting video.
What a nice hud

Out of curiosity what car did you track before GT4 rs?

Both a 981 Cayman GTS which I also used for autocross, and a stint in a Spec Boxster, both of which have been sold.

OEM rotors and pads for now, and approximately -3 front, -2.5 rear.

@@teddyframhein What do you think of the A052s vs the AD09s? I just ran AD09s on the GT3 but I'm very impressed you can turn those times.
@teddyframhein
Ай бұрын
I don’t know much about the AD09’s but I can tell you the A052’s have been the choice at 200 treadwear for autocross for the last few years. Bridgestone’s new RE-71RS is also right there. These tires are great from cold and much grippier than their treadwear rating would suggest, but do fall off at higher temperatures. So far I’ve done two or three push laps at a time and they seem fine. Grassroots Motorsports has a great overview of competitive options here: grassrootsmotorsports.com/articles/track-tire-buyers-guide/
Good lord. Sub 1:30 possible, looks like! 😮absolutely nuts
@teddyframhein

I think so. Lower track temperature, less margin, no mistakes.
Any reason why the windows are open? On most European track days the drivers are forced to keep windows closed...

@@Franzinoin the US, I believe windows open allows someone to crawl or be pulled out of a wreck car. What’s the reasoning for windows up in Europe? To mitigate items falling out of the car and onto the track?

@@dabjabar I think that because here in america they don't know blinkers exist and prefer to use hands out of a car to show other driver he can overtake you. You know, safety...left the chat

I mean, having tried and failed to fund a push into higher-level racing series, I get it. If the goal is to go racing, sim and karting are better options. Compared to other road cars though, this thing feels like decent value - everything Porsche can throw at the chassis, plus a true connection to motorsport in the powertrain. It's a genuine step on from my Spec Boxster in terms of pace, and it's road-legal and comfortable enough to relax in (relatively speaking) on the way to and from the track.
