I have had 5 Boxster's S 2000, 2004,2006,2009,2013(current), and the 718 is the first one where every angle is to my liking. There is nothing I dislike about the styling; In fact it looks awesome.

+Zestor : It's those little backfiring noises. You hear it when changing gears, allowing the car to slowdown (engine braking) and when revving the engine. Funnily I have read, that cars that have this feature, are not as (engine tune) efficient as those without it. It is a compromise for added driver appeal....Or so I understand.

I have the 981 GTS.. the 718 being a 4c banger I was worried, but Porsche did a good job with it.

A very superb and timeless styling.

0:30 I just noticed how much the Porsche crest on the wheels look exactly like swastikas when they are spinning. What an unfortunate coincidence. I'd also like to mention that the 718 Boxster is the first Boxster I might consider buying.

It sounds a little flatulent, especially during gear changes. The looks are an improvement though.

So head light style from 918 Spyder and tail lights from Cayman/Boxster GTS model.

+Armands Deglavs Indeed, they could have done a whole lot more. I think it actually looks bland and is a retrograde step compared to, say, the front-end of the 981 Boxster Spyder: imo, the best styled Boxster to date. The rear end is a bit funkier but so far I think Porsche has consistently failed to move the Boxster from the 'respected' bucket to the 'must have one of those' bucket. I rate Michael Mauer a lot and he's made the 991 (both in Gen 1 and Gen 2) an object of real desire.....but he must have left a junior in charge of the styling of the 718. I just hope the Cayman 718 works better.....

BertoniBertone​​ Well this is only modernized Boxster and Cayman.Putting "new" 918 head lights what Porsche does for example putting 918 steering wheel in their models.Put legendary 718 name on it and voila better Porsche! But really is it? I think it don't deserves 718 name.Its just like what Fiat did with Lancia.Putting Lancia name on Chrysler Voyager family van. Thats wrong.

Somehow they made a 4-cylinder sound meaner than a 6! Awesome. I think there is a little too much popping though. It almost sounds contrived.

People are just overreacting at the fact that it's a Flat-4 now rather than a Flat-6. But seriously, IT DOESN'T SOUND THAT BAD. If anything, I say Subaru and Porsche should team up for the next WRX/WRX STi like they did for the Legacy Blitzen in the early 2000s and use the engines in these. The STi gets a much needed power bump and rumours suggest Subaru is looking to develop a new DCT for the STi; which Porsche makes arguably the best DCT on the market. The powertrain of a Porsche with the robustness and capability of a Subaru.

Isn't the engine on this a 4 cylinder engine? Would anyone really be interested in that? I you going to buy a Porsche it makes sense to just save up and get a flat 6 or a V8 version surely.

The car looks fantastic inside and out. I'm sure it handles brilliantly too. However I'm sorry, but it sounds terrible. Should have done more work on the exhaust.

0:36 Wheel centres Porsche crest look like Swastika.

I think it sounds terrible. They have to rely on a bunch of pops and farts to try to make it sound cool but it just doesn't work. At around 4:45 in the video it sounds like it's going to clonk out! :) They actually went UP in price about $5-$6k from mine (a 2014 2.7 6 cyl) and actually weigh a few pounds more with 2 less cylinders! What are you doing Porsche? I realize it's now quicker, will get 2 mpg more than my car, but the sound of the flat 6 makes you want to drive it and it is so quintessentially a Porsche noise. If I wanted a car that sounded like this I'd buy a WRX and go just as quickly or better yet buy a Corvette with 100+ more hp and the sound of a V8 which can now keep up with Porsche handling. Guess I bought mine at the right time, I've officially been priced out of new Porsches, especially with the new engine. In the mean time, thank you for preserving my resale value!!

Great stats 0-100kmh and torque - but the sound? Fail, I'm afraid. I love dropping a gear in my 987 just to hear the wail. But not anywhere near as fast as these though...

sounds like what it is.. 2/3 of a 6 cylinder boxer muffled by a turbo.

+emdec55 I agree! IMO, a car's engine note is a major contribution to the overall enjoyment of the driving experience. Would you be able to justify shelling out $70k for a lightly optioned base Boxster or $100k for a nicely equipped S when they sound like this? No thanks!

+emdec55 Yes, that crackling seems excessive and artificial. It's too much, too often -- it makes the car sound like an old Beetle with a misfire. (Yet the other four-cylinder Porsche 356 sounds fantastic...)

Well, the car looks fantastic. Sound, not so much. But with more HP, more ft lbs, and more mpg I'm sure it's a hoot to drive. I get it. But let's just say I won't be trading in my flat 6 Box anytime soon.

I think Porsche just made a mistake. Nobody is on board with this vehicle being a 4 cylinder...

it sounds like a wet fart just crap (no pun intended): very disappointing.They could have made a smaller turbo flat six but rhey want to distance this and the Cayman from the 911.

It’s quicker than a 911 GT3 - that’s not distancing. It quicker than a 911 GT3 think about that.

Sounds like a plug wire is off or running out of fuel.

All those cars that blip on the gear change, I think that would get pretty annoying fairly quickly. As for the Porsche, I think they've made a reasonable attempt to hide a boring 4-pot, but ultimately it sounds like a flatulent frog.

wow that is one disappointing sound...love my 981 s....could this actually increase the future price of used 981s?....the sound of the 6 cylinder version is worth 20k imo.

This car will have zero collectors factor.. and be worth less than half its showroom price after 3 years.. The motor is fine.. Its the Bisexual boxter look that makes it so feminine...Why Porsche...Why ruin yet another design.. Why not build a collaboration with Mazda ( the BX5 MIATA S ) It'll be a big hit in Japan...F^#@ OFF Porsche.. Who signed off on the exterior tooling for this car..??
