I like the fact that you illustrate the issues with the installation. This is how we all better understand the techniques needed to avoid the frustrations. Others videos edit them out.

Looking at all the specialized tools through the years, I'm amazed you don't own (or use) piston ring pliers. 🙂 Also, it's much easier to fit the pistons in the cylinders, before mounting them on their connecting rods. It gives you all the control needed. You could even install the head studs in the block at the very end to remain good access for mounting the wrist pin clips Also, there are very handy wrist pin clip installation tools, that makes the whole cylinder installation, for a whole engine, a 15 minute job, while remaining in full control.

I agree with Paul. I had the same problem as you with the JE pistons on my 2.0 using that tool. I assembled the P&Cs on the bench. Much easier and more control.

I tried using that ring compressor and broke a ring that fell into the engine. Luckily I was able to get it out. So much easier compressing the rings off the engine into the cylinder, then mounting the piston / cylinder onto the rod.

Hey Mike. Great work! Thanks for sharing the trial-and-error. You make things look so easy, even when they are really tricky in reality. I had similar issues putting a BMW motorcycle boxer engine together years ago. But I had an advantage - only 2 cylinders!

Hello Gplus, Yes its disappointing for sure..Im surprised not much is mentioned about it on line. It was the tool used by Porsche and the correct installation method by Porsche but bares little results when using a modern piston. Live and learn I guess=) Cheers!

Is there a change of compression ratio with the new pistons I find it interesting that the piston ring design from old to the new and how the old piston has the oil wiper ring below the wrist pin I wonder how much less friction there will be in the rings compared to the old ones excellent work keep up the hard work thanks

Hello Resto im glad you made this comment! Perhaps this would be a good time to explain KZread as a medium. Generally the older guys like things quiet and focused on the boring subject at hand. The KZread Algorithm however thinks quite differently and decides the fate of my work long before it's posted. It works something like this. I put a minimum of 8-10hrs work into each video on average. It is then uploaded and analyzed by KZreads Algorithm for content ,Audio quality, flat spots, excitement level and so on. Based on the assessment of the machine it then pre-sets my view count and ranking in my metrics long before its release. The amount of views are decided for me to the view to the hour by day by the month., The success of the video is decided for me long before its release., the future success of all other videos by the Algorithms is also assessed and deemed worthy or not of a wider audience. In our case,,not. For our channel I have logged thousands of hours video and editing with very little success. I will complete this series as committed but as a channel to survive this is so not worth my time. We don't get enough likes, comments, subscribers for a broader audience. Anything that could possibly shake that machine up im all for..because at this point for me it has been the ultimate disappointment. I am not a professional videographer and am just trying my best to make things more exciting and wake that machine up. So far it has barely moved the needle but with music and an audio boost is has helped to the smallest degree. I have seen videos 10minutes in length showing how someone used a spray can of chrome paint to restore an old part that has gotten 10 time the amount of views our entire channel has gotten for every video posted since the past 7 years.. And that's pretty much how it works.. Sorry Resto I will have to veto you on this one as an attempt to save this channel =) will keep trying.. Cheers!
