If we fail at this, we will loose a generation of mighty men who could radically change the course of history, if they were not spiritually impotent. I don’t want that outcome. Good discussion. However I feel oblieged to point out that the church does not chatechetically teach that repetative confession for commiting the same sin again is an abuse of the sacrament. It is not. It is the obligation of the minister of the sacrament to instruct, direct and advise the penitant on any necessary steps toward overcoming the vice - since vice by its habitual nature may even have overpowering personal circumstances and even supernatural componants that may take time for the penitent to realise or discover in subsequent defeats. Even the Holy Father Pope Francis recently reprimanded what he described as 'delinquent priests' who withhold absolution on opinion of sincerity of repentance. Just because a penitent honestly answers that he feels it unlikley that he will not fall again doesn't mean that he is not either sorry for his most recent fall nor sorrowful for his fallen state. Siding with the faux accuser of 'abuse' of the sacrament would likely only disuade those struggling with vice who are in desperate need of experienced confessors. It could just as easily be said that a confessor who doesn't take seriously his responsibility to deliver a penitent caught in vice by engaging in the issue studiously in order to help the church in this particular vice pandemic, is 'abusing the sacrament.' Imho.
