Have you struggled with the large, expensive Spanish isopods? Well, I have too- until this tip helped with their care. Instead of losing these beautiful isopods, I am now getting mancae (babies). Check out this one tip that will help you keep and breed these isopods as well.

    Great tip! I realized that I have concave cork with all of my Spanish Porcellio, but I didn’t really know consciously what an effect it was having. 👍

    Barb. I have not found the Spanish orange to be that difficult. I had a video showing their setup. If you cannot find it, let me know and I will look. (when you are ready, let me know- I can send those to you as well in the upcoming shipment- and will give you a very nice discount). But when you are ready.

    I like the idea. Have you tried adding some stacked river stones in a corner of the dry substrate as well? Heard it helps them dry out there gills.

    Hahahahaa I dried the leaves I harvested for my new little buddies in the toaster oven LOL! I'm rearranging my place so the oven was blocked haha, I was SO hyper paranoid the whole time they'd ignite, but they're done and ready to use!

    I try to use hardwoods whenever I can- oak and maple are my favorites.

    I've never seen an isopod pay any attention to the springtails. If you are looking for Giant Orange, I have them for sale.

    P. laevis are much easier than the Giant Spanish. I would provide a bit more moisture and a LOT more protein foods.

    Have you done a video on Hassi? I can’t find many and I really want some also what size tub would you start 10 of them in? I have been starting my cultures in smaller 2-3qt containers but can I go bigger with so few isopods? What would you recommend for maximum production potential? Thanks

    I have not yet. I only do videos on geckos and isopods that I am having some success with breeding. That way, I can share my experience with others to help them too. I would start them in a 12-15 qt container for sure. 6 qt is the smallest container I actually use. Max potential..... as large of a container as you can do!

    This video made me realize I accidentally must of killed my 10 mine I kept pretty moist and it’s my fault, my tropical whites are just fine and mating but upset about my giant orange,atleast I believe I haven’t seen not 1/ in 3 months …. Also made the mistake of putting them with my crested gecko 🤦‍♂️

    Any suggestions for Porcellio Laevis “Orange”? I’ve had mine for months and they aren’t breeding at all. My Dairy Cows, however, are doing great in the exact same type of setup.

    No worries. Easy changes to make. Give them some dry substrate (@60-70% of enclosure), good ventilation, and plenty of hiding places. Good luck with your Titans and let me know if you have any questions .

    How do I give my scabers ventilation and still prevent little mites from crawling out? I've tried to quarantine my plants and my setups but I haven't been able to get rid of the mites little soil mites they crawl up the condensation.

    @@SupremeGecko I don't have any ventilation currently it's completely closed but I know that's wrong long-term especially for the scabers. But I keep them with a bioactive setup with a lot of moss. The moss dries out if it doesn't stay wet but if I keep it wet then the soil mites get all over the glass and I get worried that they're going to crawl out so I sealed it for now. That rus from aquaramax guy recommended 3M medical tape it's porous I think I'm going to try that I have some. Have you ever gotten soil mites how would you recommend ventilating a bioactive setup with isopods but still secure it

    Great question! It simply means that science 'thinks' it is a new species and have named it such... but the official analysis and publications are still pending. Thanks for asking.

    @@SupremeGecko Do P. scaber and P. laevis also need to get up out of the moist substrate on concave wood? I don't see them specifically in the species list in this video, so I thought I'd ask :)

    @@wcdeich4 The species list was specific to the Giant Spanish isopods (the more difficult isopods). The isopods you mention do not have the VERY STRINGENT needs that the isopods featured in this video need. Hope this helps.
