Bonding vs Bioclear Method
Hello my name is Dr. David Eshom and I'm a cosmetic dentist in San Diego California. Today we're going to talk about bonding as compared to the Bioclear Method. A lot of you may have heard about bonding which is the addition of tooth colored material to your teeth but you may not have heard of the bioclear treatment or the bioclear method. Today I'm going to compare the two. If you don't like your teeth because of gaps or dark triangles, crooked teeth, chipped or worn teeth. You may be considering bonding. Well, the problem with bonding is that it chips easily. It's hard to match. Stains easily and after short amount of time. Bonding doesn't last very long well. I'm here to tell you about a new method called the bioclear method which uses the same material used in bonding but is used in a much stronger, better long lasting manner. Bioclear is just additive to your teeth most of the time. It is stronger than bonding and matches better than bonding. There's no staining like bonding and it can all be done in one visit like bonding and best of all it costs less than porcelain veneers. So how does bioclear work? Well we use these very special patented funnel-shaped clear forms and place them around your teeth. We then use warm injection molding of composite into this form so it is kinda like shrink wrapped on your teeth. After paying a lot of attention to detail to placing and shaping your teeth, they look brand-new and almost just like a porcelain veneer. All this is being taught at the Bioclear Learning Center in Tacoma, Washington and I'm one of the few dentist that has been trained in this method. So here are some of my bioclear cases. In the case on the left, there's a dark triangle because of gum recession so we added tooth structure with the bioclear method to shape it correctly so that the black triangle is gone. The case to the right, this person was born with what we call a peg-shaped lateral and her only choice was to do something like a porcelain veneer. Well instead of doing a porcelain veneer, we did something much more conservative and much less expensive by doing a Bioclear veneer for her. As you can see in the picture on the bottom, bioclear can also make your teeth look better just like porcelain veneers do. As you see with this next case, Desiree had spaces between her teeth, chips on her teeth and her overall smile just didn't look as beautiful as the rest of her. So she came in me and into my my office wanting to talk about porcelain veneers and was concerned with the cost. So we offered her bioclear veneers which for half the cost you can see the results of her smile. It is clean. It's white; it's gorgeous. Kathy was in a similar position, she was referred to me by an orthodontist after teeth are straight and she wasn't happy. The teeth are straight but there is chipping it, dark triangles; there was worned areas in your teeth.She just wasn’t happy. She wanted them to look awesome after wearing braces. So we placed again bioclear veneers on for her and she was just totally jazzed and she didn't have to pay for what she thought she was coming in for which was porcelain veneers. My orthodontics is almost done. I had a huge gap on the left side across from right fang. Had baby tooth removed from behind fang. I have a few black triangles in the bottom front. But also a few around my fang. The fang connected but I now have a black triangle in front of the fang, and spacing behind the fang.

Would this method avoid the dreaded "black lines" that occur at the gum line with veneers? It seems like it would.

Doing a search, I find no one in the NJ area that does this. I wonder if it will catch on because it seems dentists are moving away from artistry in the chair (ie bonding) to reliance on the lab to create the veneers and crowns. I wonder if most dentists are even trained in bonding any more.

Since these are direct composite veneers without the need of filing your teeth, does it mean bioclear veneers feels bulkier than porcelain veneers?

Hi Yw, There is some "bulk" but not bulkier that porcelain veneers because we are adding to the teeth where they are worn or chipped. The talent of the cosmetic dentist plays a big role in the appearance and he/she can make Bioclear veneers look as good as porcelain veneers. Take a look at my before/after photos and you will see the result.
What about gray stained teeth from antibiotics (tetracycline) when a baby back in the sixties. I have crowns but some are too large and have moved other teeth out of line overtime. Also can you do this on lower teeth that still have the tetracycline staining? In other words, will it cover the staining. Is it opaque enough? Thank you!

I don't know of any well trained dentists in the NY area. Miami has a very well trained one. Dr David Carroll.
Can you be more specific of the procedure? When Bioclear is done do the teeth feel bulky especially on the back of the teeth? Will IPR be used to help with the matrix? If a patient is not satisfied with Bioclear what other option do you recommend?

Great questions. The teeth do not feel bigger but not bulky. You can still bite down correctly as you did before. We do clean between the the teeth with a sand paper strip but IPR is not performed like in orthodontics. In our consultations we go over the limits of Bioclear Uveneers and the pros and cons of porcelain veneers so that you will understand what would be best for you. Hello Dr. Eshom, I had the procedure done at North Miami Beach by Dr. Carrol. My teeth feel a lot lighter after my second visit. 1st visit was 6 hours long, crazy long but worth it. Had Bioclear done from Canine to Canine. I highly recommend Bioclear for a Colgate smile.

How long does this method work? I’ve had veneers for 20 years now having to replace due to one that cracked and I do have those ugly stained edges near the gum line.

Bioclear Uveneers are estimated to last 7-10 years. I you have had porcelain veneers before you would need porcelain veneers to correct the staining. let me know if I can help.

@@rosebompadre7225 the closest Dr that does excellent Bioclear is Dr. David Carroll in Miami Fl. Google him. He is a great cosmetic practitioner.
I had gum disease 6 years ago which has been treated and because I am very diligent with looking after my teeth I haven't had any more problems, however, I would like to know if Bioclear is safe for someone who is prone to gum disease?

Yes it is as long as the dentist performing it makes sure the junction to your tooth under the gum is smooth.

Hi. Yes, can brush with natural toothpaste but you always want to be concerned with any toothpaste that is too abrasive whether it is natural or not.

I would suggest Bioclear or Invisalign. Invisalign could fix all your teeth, Bioclear cheapest but would just fix four front teeth. email at dr.e@eshomdds.com if you need quote or have more questions
