FYI porcelain is painted and then fired at a lower temperature than the initial firing which transformed the greenware into porcelain the first time around. They are often fired multiple times as the artist paints one section and then another. This is done because until the paint is fired on it will smear at the slightest touch. I used to make reproductions as a hobby.

I know that too😊, I sculpt as well and have taken every possible sculpting class out there because I love it so much 😅. Porcelain and regular clay don't necessarily have to be glazed or painted with fireable paints only, depending on what style of art you're going for, you can combine all sorts of media to create unique art pieces. There are ways to make a painted bisque stage lasting too. I did glaze some of my sculptures but you can't really achieve the flawless effect of shading you're going for with glazes or fireable paints. So used both soft pastels and watercolor paint on my sculptures then I sealed them with permanent waterproof sealant.

Have you ever tried using Windsor and Newton Brush Cleaner as a way to remove paint? I have never tried it on porcelain (but will be shortly), but it works wonderfully on resin and vinyl dolls. It is much faster than acetone and I think maybe gentler?

I'm glad to see that acetone does take the factory paint off - I have a Donna Rubert porcelain doll, I know that the doll wasn't painted by Donna Rubert and she only sculpted the doll before it was made into porcelain but whoever painted the doll that I have did a really poor job on the finger and toenails. I don't mean to be cruel about other people's skill level as I personally have never painted porcelain before and I know the process is quite difficult but I have painted reborn baby dolls before and the process is essentially the same, only with different paints and vinyl parts instead of porcelain. I will attempt to remove the nail colours and I'll re-do the nails on my Donna Rubert doll but I also have another unbranded doll with brown/orange lips - she is quite a pretty doll but her lip colour is awful due to the age of the doll and so I will attempt to fix her lips too 😄 Was it just 100% pure strength acetone that you used on the paint? I have strong acetone that I have used to remove glue off of my Donna Rubert doll's scalp from the old wig that she had and it cleaned the glue away really nicely but of course, the glue is not fired/cured on the porcelain so it will be easier than paint. I would love to give my Donna Rubert doll realistic finger and toe nails as well as blushed feet and blushed hands etc. I could just get blank porcelain parts and do it that way but this Baby Shay by Donna Rubert that I have was a TLC doll that needed work and I've done a fair bit already. I only got her for $25 so I got really lucky lol I am looking forward to seeing what you do with this doll too!

Oh wow you painted reborns? That's a high level skills right there 😅! I can only imagine how good you must be since you worked on reborns. Well, her eyelashes and lips came off with acetone easily. But her blush on the cheeks and eyebrows were either done with a different type of porcelain paint or cured/baked differently because acetone couldn't lift it so I used sandpaper and just sand it off. First by rough one to get the pait and then the finer nail buffers to buff off the scratches. The glue on her scalp was a bit of struggle. I also used sandpaper on it, but I think all I need to do is let the acetone soak a bit into it. But I was unexperianced at that point yet 😅. We learn as we go. But my dolls were factory painted and not name brand. But if your dolls were hand painted by someone then most likely acetone should work on the paint just fine. Good luck, tho. Painting porcelain is different then plastic/vinyl dolls, but I loved it. I used mr. Super clear spray as primer and painted her with soft pastels and watercolor pencils then I sealed my end result with acrylic varnish for extra protection. And I love how it turned out. Especially since it's my first time. (I'll be posting a video about soon. Hopefully tomorrow 😅) Anyways, happy creating!!! I love working with dols.

@@nataliabidunartvlog5503 Thank you! Yes, reborning was a crazy hobby for me. I stopped doing it recently though, sold all my supplies etc and now I'm into porcelain dolls etc. I would love to use china paints so that I can fire the paint on my porcelain dolls and make their new paint permanent but I will see what happens. I may be able to just lighten the paint that I want to cover up with some hiding layers and then just paint over the top and cure it somehow lol I also bought Mr Super Clear recently, I hear that I will need a respirator mask for that stuff though so I can't use it yet until I get one of those but I bought the MSC for repainting Paola Reina dolls and I am going to experiment with various things involving dolls this year :) I was a reborn artist since 2014 so I would like to get into a new hobby this year as I quit reborning only late last year lol I'm looking forward to seeing your video too! I will subscribe to you :) I might one day post videos of my restoration process of this Donna Rubert doll that I have as I always find myself looking for videos of how people do certain things and I found both with reborn doll making and porcelain doll making that there are lots of videos but there aren't always videos to help you with something that might be classed as slightly more difficult than some other things if that makes sense so I might post videos at some point showing my process of working with porcelain dolls etc. I'm completely new to these dolls, I had one several years ago and never played with her or anything like that. She stayed in a bag inside of a drawer because her head was cracked and I was unsure of how to fix her. I also recently learnt how to fix the cracked head issue and I also learnt that the doll that I had was worth a fair amount of money too so I should never have given her away 🤣 Money isn't everything but if I had kept her and then restored her all these years later, I probably would've been able to sell her as a restored doll or something to then use the money for more dolls to repair 😅🤣
