I'm Latin American, I want to say something and I hope this doesn't offend some Filipinos. I learned about your country when Aquino was assassinated and I discovered then that in this Asian country there were Hispanic names and so I followed the news of the fall of the dictatorship and I became interested in learning more about the Philippines. So it could be said that it was the dictatorial situation that introduced me to the culture of the country. But at the end of the 90s I went to Japan to study and while there I met many Filipinos, the kindest and friendliest Asian people, and since then I really started to know things about the Philippines and since then I have been linked to this country and its people, to the point that I follow daily news from the Philippines, listen to their music, read about their culture and have even learned a little Tagalog. But I've noticed that Filipinos don't realize how tied they are to Hispanic culture. Every day I am surprised by the number of words that were adopted into Tagalog and the everyday things that are a heritage from the Spanish. All of this makes me think that Filipinos should be interested in speaking and reading Spanish, and when I talk to Filipinos and teach them expressions in Spanish, I notice that the pronunciation is not difficult for them, so it would not be a problem for them to learn the Spanish. I hope they dare to do it, sana all! 😊

What a great experience and thank you for your insights brother, indeed let us continue teaching my fellow Filipinos to learn Spanish to bridge again the link between the Philippines and the Hispanic world. As we are brothers and sisters in culture.

Buenas, Filipinas fue conquistado y colonizado(hurtado) por los españoles en 1521 hasta 1889, y me recuerdo que en años 1960 a 1990 todavía enseñan el español en las universidades, solo que no es obligatorio o sea, tienen que elegir algunas materia para completar su currículum para poder graduarse. Por cierto, en algunas provincias de Filipinas se habla el español solo que ya está mezclado con algunas palabras de filipino, por ejemplo en Zamboanga, cebu, etc. Y solo para aclarar también, que en 1970, se declaró el Martial Law o la dictadura por culpa de ese Aquino. Porque querían propagar el comunismo en el país en esa entonces, y el es cerebro de algunas masacre en algunos manifestaciones para enculpar el gobierno. Los aquí son los que saquearon en pueblo filipino.

@@frederickdayrit9753 Por eso dije que yo esperaba no ofender a algunos filipinos, porque en todo país donde ha habido dictaduras, y el mio es uno, siempre habrán personas con argumentos a favor o en contra de las dictaduras. Pero mi enfasis en lo que escribí era que de no haber sido por la llamada dictadura de Marcos, yo no me habría interesado por Filipinas, o sea, digamos que fue ese evento histórico que me motivó a investigar sobre Filipinas y su gente. Ahora bien, una cosa es cierta con dictadura y sin dictadura Filipinas sigue teniendo mucha gente muy muy pobre, lo que me lleva a pensar que el problema no está en si la tendencia de los gobiernos es de izquierda, de centro o de derecha, sino en otras cosas. Con el tiempo he observado que muchos países, como el mío, tienen mucha gente pobre porque a los políticos les conviene que haya pobres y que esos pobres dependan de ellos y vivan con la esperanza de que ellos son los "mesías" que van a resolver los problemas. Tristemente es así y es un patrón que se repite mucho alrededor del mundo.
