This is a interesting premise for a manga. The MC is actually the side character of the MC in-story. The MC in-story in his attempts to get a harem like a normal MC would, he drove away the love interest to the side character. Now we have a MC in-story who has the harem he wanted by stealing them away from the side character and as if by karma, what would be the love interest to the MC goes to the side character instead. So the MC in-story got his harem, but doesn't have the love interest. The most important girl of a harem. While the side character lost all his female friends to the MC in-story while gaining the love interest.

I think the perfect way to end this manga is for the girls in the harem to slowly come to realize how awful the MC in-story actually is and go back the side character who their were friends with originally. Which in turn would make the side character the MC he was always meant to be. And for the MC in-story to become the side character jealous of the MC he was always meant to be.

Just make the mc in-story do something bad to the girls and they ditch the mc in-story to go seek comfort in their friend the MC. the MC because he is a nice guy, would comfort them which would in turn cause them to realize how much better he is when compared to the MC in-story and join the love interest making a harem for the MC in the process.

I read the WebNovel, oh boy it gets good especially when he rejected his ex best friend and childhood friend. He was savaged villain because in the end of the day they are strangers but he was kind and understanding brother to his stepsis. Shimo is also showing a hint of Yandere, it is funny when Asuza (the stepsis) warned the MC that he might be trap in the basement someday.

I read the webnovel, MC straight up told his ex-bestfriend to beg to him, that she is pathetic and he needs someone to rely, and he is too kind that he will accept her back only if she beg to the him to accept her once again. MC straight up cook her, while also being kind because it somewhat saved the ex best friend. He is actually badass when he is not on his mob persona. Mc being a doormat has a reason, his mom traumatized him or something and also you need an Mc to start low so you can see development in his character... This I admit that even later in the story he still acts like a wuss sometimes (later in WN only, when he could have prevented Azusa from relapsing on her interest in ryoma, he didn't, she had to come out of it herself in a pretty bad ass moment)

Webnovel is okay but especially the third Volume was horrible but there are few chapters that are really good, like you are reading a different novel level of good. 2.5/5. Spoiler (Chapter 350+) MC married Shiho Shimotsuki. Ryoma actually become a decent person after the Valentine's arc, now he understands the girls and their feelings. Asuza has the best character development, Shiho is the best girl, and Mary can die.

You only really get azusa's real character once she's off the influence of ryoma and both siblings have scenes alone or with shiho, the chapters between Mc and Azusa 10 years after school are some of the best even if they're extras, they fit with the ending so they can be Canon unlike the holiday or AU ones

The mc keeps going back to "I'm just a mob character" mentality in a bad way. Leon Bartford is an example of a good "I'm a mob character" mentality. The fmc was introduced as a silent person, then made a complete 180° in personality with an absurd reason. The step sister liked the "rival" because he looked and felt like the brother she lost. She's basically trying to go incest. The "rival" has nothing good on him other than being "handsome" and "confident" as described by other characters. *Spoiler - I heard that the "rival" ends up with a harem with the 3 (mc's stepsister, childhood friend, and close friend) in the webnovel. Feels like reading Rent-a-Girlfriend Deluxe Cucked Edition.

No Harem Bastard didn't choose one but it is still undetermined, not fully translated yet, Asuza (Stepsister) was just misguided but when she got rejected, the MC was a kind understanding brother and Shimo straight up harass her like an older sister (ie. stealing her snacks and pestering him for the MC photo) but the MC response to the ex-bestfriend is savaged while the childhood friend never like the MC because they are polar opposite.

The story is good but with some very questionable parts, if you read web novel then pretty much everything after volume 2 can be skipped except the slice of life parts until Mc and fmc get married 19 years later, while if you read the LN, vol 4 is pretty acceptable (there's a new girl competing for Mc that turns out to be related to fmc)

this one takes bland insert protag to the next level. he's not even "kind" and he didn't even win the girls heart by doing something minor and kind for her. she just likes how he "sounds". i mean that's like saying "hey babe, I love your tits." legit likes him for a feature that is part of "him" and something he has no control over. "I like your red hair". Seriously? Thats what the author wants to base a romance manga on?
