You make so many seemingly banal topics so fascinating to listening to! Love the myths series

Small nitpick here. Jump-cuts generally don't refer to cuts between different shots (or angles). Rather, it refers to a cut within the same shot. It's essentially removing the middle part of a clip, thus it appears to jump forwards in time.

Remember trying to watch man in the high tower, based on a recommendation. The first episode had so many jump cuts I was becoming physically overwhelmed.

Thanks so much! I've been in advertising for 14 years. Haven't owned a television during the last ten of them.

How prescient - my power went out from the hurricane just minutes after I watched this, lol. I haven't watched TV or movies to speak of in 40 years, but I work in IT, and get a lot of screen time besides, as well, so this is a welcome break 😊 I'm really liking this series - keep up the good work!

If you’ve ever had the misfortune of watching “reality TV” you should be very well acquainted with jump cuts between boring scenes of nothing happening

Mind numbing corporate and government programming, just relax, listen to the voices, laugh with the canned laughter, believe the smiley faces care for you, relax and trust the society of the spectacle, your free glowing god, you are in heaven, just relax. Dont think, just watch.

'And you can see waaay-maybe five miles across the water, and...no.' Haha those were some quick jump cuts Wes! Went to the beach today myself, so this was even funnier.

I tend to mostly listen to TV, so a lot of the jump cut stuff is lost on me.

Been noticing the cuts on sports television a lot lately, I watch the NRL and they have a pattern of giving close-up vs wide shot cuts for the first 3 tackles and then another pattern for the last 2 tackles. It's so seamless as a viewer to watch, but must be a lot of mental work for the production team to keep track, each cut only lasts seconds and they have to keep switching things around while live.

Great topic , I wonder what type of memories and experiences of life , what stories will they tell their grandchildren , the day this generation grows older and life have passed them by , mostly behind a screen

As a genz i can confirm however i dont think all genzers struggle with this situation maybe more gen a's will I have no memories of experiences or really very little. I used tv to escape life but i have gotten so bored of it now im learning philosophy and i have no idea what the outcome will be.

The fact that standard television is even still a thing is completely beyond me. As little sense as watching a flashing screen for extended amounts of time makes, forcefeeding one stream of content for forever is a very strange business model. Of course it tends to be very streamlined and unoffensive because if you switch channels, you're gone for the business. If you switch shows on Netflix, you're still on Netflix. So vastly different incentive models.
