Gouty attacks happen when there is elevated levels of uric acid in the blood. This can occur due to diet or your body's inability to control the levels of uric acid. These crystals trigger an inflammatory response from your body causing a hot, painful and swollen joint.
It is often called the "Rich Man's Disease" due to red meat and beer consumption triggering gouty attacks.
After multiple gouty attacks, the crystals can actually build up in the joint causing it to become inflamed and painful. Let's see what's inside this gouty bump!
Bye, bye chalky filled bump!!!
Love,
The Toe Bro

I'm a female, a vegetarian, and a non drinker yet I had my first gout attack when I was only 36. Anyone can get gout. I get my uric acid levels checked often and if they are up I take allopurinol. Anyone can get it and it can be managed. The attacks are incredibly painful, so managing the condition is better then treating it.

It’s mostly a hereditary disease. Your body naturally makes the purines, it’s just our kidneys aren’t doing their job filtering out excess purines. Diet, while although can contribute, has shown to be less of a factor than having gout run in your family. So as you said, it can happen to anyone and shouldn’t really be looked at as someone who doesn’t take care of themselves.

I'm not a baby when it comes to needles, I always have them take blood out of my hand or put an IV in my hand but I howled like a baby with the shot in my foot! It depends how it's done Like getting a Lidocaine injection into your gum at the dentist The trick is to push the needle in very slightly, inject a tiny amount of Lidocaine, then push the needle in a bit further and inject more That first tiny amount numbs the area enough so that the needle going further in doesn't hurt I would think it's the needle going into already inflamed, pain sensitive tissues that can really cause the pain

In my adult life, I've had a total of 8 ingrown nails removed from my 2 big toes. Last time for a removal was 10 years ago. Also had the entire nails & bed removed twice. Both nails grew back so those 2 procedures was a waste of time. Reason for this post is to say those injections I received in my toes/foot, much like the ones administered in this video, were the most painful injections I've ever had in my life. Being a diabetic, I've had many needles stuck in me, as well as having cardiac issues/treatments and no injections hurt like those in my toe/foot. I hope to never have to have those injections ever again. Note: All 8 of the ingrown nails were done by different doctors, and all felt equally painful.

Thanks for asking. The nail bed is at the bottom of the nail where the nail grows out from. The procedure is done where the entire nail is removed and the nail bed itself is also removed. Doing this suppose to block the nail from growing back. My nail did grow back and I started getting ingrown nails again. That procedure was a waste of my time and I experienced a lot of pain and bleeding from the procedure. Here I am 20 something years later and doing better. Thank you

I have gout. Thank you dad. That white stuff under a microscope is actually millions of little sharp needle crystals. When they move they are constantly stabbing you which is what us causing the inflammation and intense pain. If you are lucky, as I have been, the crystals get absorbed by the body after a day ir two and it goes away until the next bout. Cortisone shots help tremendously BUT the shot in the inflamed joint is the most painful thing I have ever experienced. I asked the doc why so intense. He said you have an inflamed joint full of sharp little crystals and the cortisone is going in and shoving everything around and those crystals are stabbing everything they touch.

It's a particular kind of arthritis, so yes, it is inflammation of the joints, caused by reduced kidney function, the body isn't able to eliminate the uric acid crystals and they end up lodged in places where circulation is slower. Hurts like the devil, but luckily most flares clear up in 10 days or so and it might be a while before another happens.

I remember my first gout attack. It started as a mild pain in my left foot and grew so painful I couldn't walk for a week

It's a little-known fact that medical schools adhere to the "you take it out, you have to taste it" philosophy of life.

Had an automotive repair class in highschool, the teacher gave a end of the semester test that included smelling and tasting most car fluids (oil, transmission, coolant, etc. Gas was by smell only) and saying what each one was. So people don't take it out of proportion - it was a tiny drop on the tip of your finger, not drinking it.

My mom took black cherry juice daily plus the alipurin to keep gout at bay. She never had any tophi, but her fingers would split open.

I’m finding in the UK that the approach seems to be go on allopurinol and let the crystals dissolve naturally. This surgery might speed up that process but is only a temporary relief. If the guy doesn’t go on allopurinol the crystals will just gather again.
