Pope Paul VI arrives in New York City as a simple pilgrim seeking World Peace where he visits with President Lyndon Baines Johnson before speaking his message of peace to the United Nations and later offers Mass before 90,000 of the faithful in Yankee Stadium.
History is made this day as Pope Paul VI arrives at Kennedy Airport in New York City as a pilgrim seeking peace. Pope Paul VI is the first Pontiff ever to set foot on the soil of the United States.
Historic footage the epic journey of Pope Paul VI beginning with the landing of the Pope's plane at Kennedy Airport. His 24-mile motorcade terminates at Saint Patrick's Cathedral where he offers prayers of thanksgiving for a safe journey. President Lyndon B. Johnson traveled from Washington to meet with the Pope for 45 minutes. Both expressed deep satisfaction with the meeting.
At the United Nations, Pope Paul VI, the Spiritual Leader of 600 million Roman Catholics, is greeted by Buddhist Secretary-General U Thant. The Pope addresses the UN in fluent French, pleading that the United Nations offers the peoples of the World a last hope of peace.
Later, Pope Paul VI offers Mass before 90,000 people in Yankee Stadium and here he receives an ovation from Catholic, Jew and Protestant. Pope Paul concludes his journey with a visit to Michelangelo's 'Pieta' at the Vatican Pavilion at the World's Fair.

    This pope was recognized as a saint of the Roman Catholic Church on 14 October 2018. The key phrase remembered from St. Paul VI's UN speech is, "No more war, war never again!"
