Pope Francis chuckles as boy climbs on stage and interrupts speech

A boy broke through security, clambered on to the stage and pulled the sleeve of a Swiss guard on the podium metres from the pontiff while he was speaking in the Vatican audience hall.

'Leave him, leave him to play here,' the pope said as the child, who he said was speech-impaired, rolled around in front of him on the carpet. As the weekly audience continued, the child was allowed to keep roaming around the podium.

The pope first jokes about himself, then compliments the kid and comforts his mother. Shows a kind heart in an intelligent man.

Those were really wise words and a very mature response from him.

I’m not Christian but this Pope really is a man of deep wisdom to learn so profoundly from every moment. I’m glad I got to learn this from him today. Much respect!

How times have changed. If I did this with our local parish priest when I was a kid I would be punished horribly.

Brought tears to my eyes. My son is on the spectrum but it’s fortunate enough to have the power or speech. Still he is often looked at by many as strange in his wandering and often doesn’t respond when spoken too. Warms my heart to see and hear such acceptance.
