Pop-up rail yards help ease supply chain challenges

As a step to mitigate supply change congestion, Georgia Ports implemented an innovative solution using six flexible pop-up facilities near manufacturing and distribution centers in the Southeast to serve as a pressure valve release. The yards are located in Savannah, Atlanta, Statesboro, the Appalachian Regional Port, Rocky Mount, N.C. and Huntsville, Ala. The yards add 500,000 TEUs of additional container space, bring cargo closer to customers and reduce the amount of storage time at Garden City Terminal.
