People have said to me over and over again how hard it is to find the right person. Many of my friends are using the online dating world as a way to possibly find the right one. Dont be discouraged! Navigating through the profiles of many would be potential suitors involves discipline and dedication. The world has changed. More of us are using the online dating scene as a way to meet people. A recent study found that US citizens are projected to spend over 900 million in online dating in the year 2011. Thats a lot of money being spent on people dating!!
Gone are the days when people meet casually at a corner store, at the coffee shop they frequent or at the bookstore perusing the latest novel. The process of sitting in front of our computers and setting up a profile about ourselves can be a daunting task. Do we tell the truth about what we are looking for? How we look? Are we accurate in revealing our age/height and weight?
Do we claim to love long walks on the beach when in fact we dont even live near one and furthermore, dont like to venture outside unless it is for the latest film, exclusive restaurant or a friends party. Do we say that money doesnt mean anything and we prefer independence when in fact, we like to be taken out and deep inside have feelings of anger if someone suggests we split the bill or that we cover it?!?!
Why do we continue to deceive people and ourselves about who we are, what we are looking for and what we have to offer? Is it because we feel that if we told the truth they wont like us? Or if we reveal too much - they might be scared off? What are the real reasons why so many of us seem to be afraid to show our true colours?
