It was a very cruel system that was considered a crime against humanity. The scars of that system are still visible today. It will take a while to reverse them, given that the rich got to keep their riches. I don't understand why there is poor Europeans (that's what they classified themselves as) today. Today they are called white South Africans. Take a trip down to the south when covid19 is over. See for yourself. Make a stop by the apartheid museum to learn more about the history of the country. The amazing thing is how warm South Africans are, through everything they have endured.

They are still getting a lot of compassion from the black community it seems. Probably more than blacks got from them during apartheid.

yes so true, i grew up very poor in South Africa, and my father worked all his life on the gold mines in South Africa as a fitter and turner, , i became a boilermaker apprentice at a private engineering firm, got qualified after 2 years, , then went and worked also on the gold mines, built up a very good mine pension, am living very good today on that pension,so many white people in South Africa looked down on us working on the mines, if u worked on the gold mines people associated you as being uneducated ,my sister also worked on the gold mines for around 31 years and is receiving a very big monthly pension from the mines, during the 1960.70/80 white most white people didn't want to go work on the mines,

Growing up and making it in life in 3rd world countries is no easy.It needs a determined soul committed to make it against all odds. I left school years back,was the first born in a family of ten and got 3 children in my teens though one died before age 2,i was still single broke and broken. I got married to an abusive man just to have someone in my life for the sake of my children. Without any money i decided to start a business,a grocery store and would borrow goods on credit from wholesale shops nearby to pay back same day .That worked magic and surprisinly raised my capital base from the profits i ploughed back into the business. Today i live in my own town home with some other assets to count on. I never wasted time explaining people about my problems because many were sarcastic. It only takes determination and our creator places someone in the right place.Blessings got time and place. So they can make it.

I from South Africa. It's true there are poor white people living in bad conditions, but there are also Indian people living slums, coloured people living in slums, and the majority of the black population living in slums. Our economy is not good and every race is suffering. I live in an area where I've seen all races receive equally poor service at the hospitals and other government institutions, and I have many white friends who are doing very well. So for those who say white people are unfairly discriminated against, that is definitely not true.

I think that, this is not reverse discrimination; If we can be a bit of intellectual honesty . It's just what the world would be like if it hadn't been for 5 centuries fashioned exclusively for the benefit of the White man. There we are rather in what must be a world where the laws are not made exclusively for white superiority. But laws that benefit everyone. And the more the white elite who dominate the South African economy had to negotiate not to create a social cover system, because they did not want to share all the gotten wealth with the blacks. But they forgot that they are millions of whites in South Africa, so a part of them without a system exclusively reserved for whites, the weakest whites will live in misery.

@@MikeNj Apartheid didn't cause any poverty. Black South Africans today and during apartheid were much less poor than other black African populations. They would have been much poorer had they been left to their own devices and the only reason South Africa today is still much better off than almost all other black African nations in terms of poverty is entirely because of the productivity of the white population. The blacks have benefited enormously from living in a country with a large white population.

Poverty does not look at race, all races have the potential to fall into poverty, as is the case in this part of the world, in South Africa the poverty of the white race is a concern caused at a time when apartheid politics they get privileges when compared to blacks! There should be no homeless child, of any colour in any country!

It's white countries who began the process of decolonization, so what are you talking about? Also the average white person's opinion didn't count anything, how could they change something?

@@chappie3642 well most white people when they don't do well in life, the black man is at fault. It is a sad situation. Blacks have suffered in their own country for so long. I can't sympathize
