Liked. Subscribed. We had napped cloth installed at the Senior Center. It pilled a lot at first and was slow. I brushed the pills with the nap and removed them. Having seen snooker tables ironed on KZread I ironed it with the nap and it came out much faster. It is quite agreeable now.

been playing for a few years and got my first table about 2 years ago. I am finally getting new felt, rails, and pockets. Si860 is what I'm going with mainly because in tournaments I'm going up agenst Fargo as high as 680.

Best info yet I've found on Pool table cloth... very good. 30:00 It could have been worse; you could have been waiting for those first four notes of Beethoven's Fifth in Boston Symphony Hall.

I’ve watched this video several times as I’m getting ready to re-cloth my Foremost table and noticed your comments about “bank pool” and that’s a game where you can’t shoot straight but every shot must be banked. I had a friend who wanted to play that at work but, based on our skills, it would take too long per game. Not correcting you, if you meant the same by billiards, but adding a bit of my experience. Thank you for all you do for us and hope you’re getting better and better from your illness!

Wish I saw this before reclothing my table last year. Knew of Simonis but was out of my price range, but my 7ft valley bar box was due for new cloth. Ended up getting Championship Pro Am, and after a year on it I like it but it's just too fast for the 7ft table, especially since all my leagues are on bar box valleys with Mercury Ultra cloth. I feel like there is plenty of life left in my cloth even with shooting almost daily but I'll be going back to Mercury Ultra since that's what I play on for leagues. I guess it's best to practice on what you play on instead of trying to get fancy with the cloth.

every tournament ive ever played in used 760. im very used to its play, im also used to butchered unlevel bar tables lol. like you said about the cue in a previous video if you cant play on any table you cant play on any table.

Thanx to your wonderful guidance, I was motivated to replace my cloth yesterday. However, I still wanted to practice the job before committing a wad of cash to a good cloth. So, went to Walmart and bought 9 feet of random cloth for $15, plus $13 for Loctite spray adhesive (3M "90" couldn't be found on any shelves near me). Removing the slate from my Global barbox is so easy that I am not intimidated if I have to do this again soon. Came out fine except for a small example of overspray, and I'm so pleased to be able to get some break balls to come back over the "50-yard line". While I was under the slate I sound-dampened the ball channels, including preventing plastic channels from routing balls into right-angle collisions with metal channels (Automatic ball damage?). Please predict what you think will happen to my cloth over the summer! I probably average 40 racks per week.

I'm a bit confused. Do you still have the "Walmart" fabric on the table? If not, which cloth did you end up covering it with? I could give you a prediction if I knew more about what cloth is currently on it.

l took off the green, commercial-grade cloth on Monday and put on the red, 97% polyester/3% spandex Craft Department fabric on Wednesday. Everything looks and plays great except for the 3" string of glue and two splatters sticking to the table next to diamonds. I originally was going to try to flip over the closely-cropped green, but for $15 it was much more rewarding to stretch the red. Some pinholes in the green might have become noticeable had I stretched the green. For now, I'm getting much more distance and draw on my cueball, but I have a feeling I might have to erect a windscreen because lags look bent but the table still checks as level!

There are loads of small projects that can be done entirely by hand. I've got sewing equipment, clicker dies, a clicker press, and dunk-dye buckets because I've got several leather products that I make in bulk. However, almost anything can be made entirely by hand with minimal tools and minimal investment. Start with small things like key fobs, mouse pads, and small, less intricate things like that. Eventually your skills will improve and then, you move on to bigger, more complicated projects.

760 is a great cloth to use in the Florida and the South where you have high humidity once it wears in it plays way better than 860 which becomes very draggy when broken in

760 is great, once you get the feel, nothing as elegant as the ball gliding around on 760. Had it on a GC IV and regularly played on 860 in tournaments, no issues.

There's nothing "wrong" with Simonis. It just isn't my favorite cloth to either play on or install. Think "Ford vs. Chevy".

Siminos 760 is a great cloth I have a 9 feet table Brunswick pool table for approximately twelve years and the cloth is still in good condition.

Love the video and all others. Nowhere else this level of info available. Question: I'm looking for an outside table, that will be covered when not played upon. Any recommendations? Stain Resistant or Teflon recommended?. My game is primarily straight pool and one pocket. Thanks for taking time to answer... Keep up the good work. Alain

For an outdoor table, you should use a fabric called "Sunbrella". You can purchase it through Sailrite.

hey Doug, I spoke to you other day on table cloths, and you mentioned a cloth you would recommend over the simonis 860, and for the life of me can not remember what it was exactly, if you recall speaking to me and what you had said i would appreciate it, ohh and I got the table moved safely was heavier than I thought lol but all is good

Hi Bob, Glad moving the table worked out well for you! The cloth I mentioned was the Championship Tour Edition 3030. This is going to be the equivalent in play to the Simonis; but, in my opinion, is the superior cloth. Hope this helps! Doug

What would be a good felt to put on my Valley 7' pool table

Always great info on your videos. I'm on Tampa Florida and my table will be in my garage with air conditioning. But it's very humid here, what cloth would you recommend? Thank you for your time.

Any one of Championship's or Simonis' cloths will work just fine. Even in the humid environment. However, what will cause issues is wide changes in humidity. The dehumidifier will work wonders. And, you don't have to leave it on all the time. But, you would want to turn it on a few hours before you're going to play pool. This will give the cloth a chance to release some of the moisture and contract as well. If you install the cloth in a humid environment, when it dries out in the winter and spring it will contract (making it tighter - this is a good thing). If, however, you install the cloth in a dry environment, when it gets more humid, the cloth will become loose (not a good thing). So, I would be more concerned with humidity conditions on the day you install it than anything else. Once installed, use the dehumidifier to keep the humidity levels LOWER than they were when the cloth was first installed. Again, this should only take a few hours before playing.

760 without a doubt

No problem with me...but...you may want to edit a bit at about the 30 minutes in point (where you get interrupted by a phone call/test). I enjoy your vids. Good info.

I got a used gameroom concept outdoor 1 piece slate table which is $6500 new and I got it for $500, so couldn't pass it up. The table frame and everything is like new but the backing on the 3/4 slate is crumbling so I have to replace that. Have you ever had any experience doing that? I'm planning on trying to find some 3/8 MDF board, remove the old backing, and replace with MDF. My main question is what type of cloth would you use on an outdoor table that will be under a patio with no direct sunlight? I don't want to put the sunbrella cloth on it because most of the research I've done says not to use that because you don't get true play on it like I would with a good quality cloth. I do live is Austin Texas so we do have our 105 degrees days of summer, so wondering what I could use other than Sunbrella? I'm also going to change out the rubber on the railings so any advice on the best rubber to use would be great. I'm an average player working on upping my game.

NEVER use MDF in an outdoor application! Either opt for marine plywood or pressure treated lumber.

What’s ur cloth recommendation for a beginner on an oversized 8’ table? Is 860 worth it? What is the championship equivalent? Better to learn on a “faster” cloth and adjust from there? Thank you for the videos!

I would recommend the Championship Tour Edition 3030 over the Simonis 860. Same speed between the two. Championship is much easier to install. And, it lasts longer.

What's your thoughts about the felt that have logos printed on them? They use standard 18oz polyester based pool felt that has a Teflon ant-friction coating. The felt has a stain resistant coating to protect against unwanted spills. It offers excellent print capabilities via a dye sublimation process. Their professional billiard cloth is a worsted blend of 70% Merino wool and nylon. It’s treated with a stain resistant coating to protect against spills and stains, but is comes with a very hefty price tag. My table will be on my large back patio, which is covered, and the table will never get direct sunlight. Temps do however get up to over 100 degrees in the summer. I'm thing of having a craps casino table logo printed on the felt. I know that's a lot to have going on so any words of wisdom so my jump off of this cliff isn't as fatal as it could be? ( Now that I'm thinking about it maybe I'll have craps print on one half and a chess board printed on the other side!! just kidding!!) I'm also wondering what's the best rail rubber to use. I've seen some info that the humidity will speed up the ball action off the rails.

I've never been a fan of printed cloth. There are 2 ways of printing on cloth. 1) use basically an oversized ink-jet printer designed for printing on fabric (which is the process you're referring to) and 2) silk-screening. Neither holds up well. Using the first method, they start out with a cloth that is designed to be printed on using this method. In other words, the cloth is NOT designed to be good for playing pool. Also, it usually looks decent for about 3 months (assuming the table gets moderate use). Then, it rapidly begins to fade. This cloth also doesn't preform anywhere near as well as legit pool table fabric. In the second method, they start out with actual pool table cloth. But, they apply a heavy ink to the fabric. Once dry, the ink takes on a rubber-like feel and texture. This effects how the ball rolls (especially when you apply English to the ball) when it hits those areas. Again, it usually looks good for about 3 months (with moderate use). Then, the ink starts to wear and look VERY bad. Someone taught me a LONG time ago this lesson: "With everything you gain, you give something up." With printed cloth, you are giving up cloth longevity, performance and money for the small gain of having a print on your cloth that only looks good for about 3 months. The absolute best rubber made is Artemis. However, unless you are a professional pool player, I doubt you would notice the differences between Championship MBS rubber, Tour Edition rubber, Brunswick Superspeed rubber, Olhausen's Accufast rubber, or Artemis rubber.

I've got an 8' outdoor table that I'm restoring and still struggling with what type of cloth to put on it. It's going on my covered patio and will never get rained on and very little sun light in the evening as the sun lowers below my patio cover. I do not want to use Sunbella cloth and was thinking about putting Simonis 860HR because that 's what is used on the Diamond 9' tools at our pool hall. However, when listening to this video, at about 36.11, you stated that you may suggest Simonis 760 on a garage kept table. I then discovered that Simonis makes an outdoor 760 cloth and now I'm struggling on if I should go with the Simonis outdoor 760 or Simonis 860HR. Since I've never played on 760 I was wondering if the 760 is so much faster than the 860hr, that I should just stay with the 860? Have you had any experience with Simonis outdoor 760 and any thoughts of what to use if you were going to put cloth on my table? I know that either cloth has possible pros and cons so I'm not going to get upset if one or the other ends up being a crappy choice, but just wondering what type you think may work better?

If it were my pool table, I would go with the Sunbrella. It really does play quite well. However, if you are dead-set on not using it and going with Simonis (which I think is a waste of money - given the application) I would go with the 860HR. The 760 plays a LOT faster than the 860. I know the temptation and pressure from other pool players is to go with Simonis. As a professional installer and technician (who has no stake in how your table comes out or how much money you spend or where you spend it), I would resist that temptation and go with a tried-and-true fabric for an outdoor application - Sunbrella.

So what are the cloths that are on Chamberlain tables that are sold at the Pool warehouse? They say 60% wool with k66 bumbers, non of the tables use slate under.

Short rack banks is also played quite a bit

Doug. First of all I want to thank you for all your great videos that you have posted to KZread. Through your work, you have allowed the larger billiard Community to understand the Mystique, marketing, and Miss information regarding billiard table repair and cloth selection. I have a question I would like to pose to you as a professional. I have a valley model 13 pool table which is an old 6-footer. My local installer here in the Los Angeles area who I've known for over 30 years suggests Championship 3030 which I have played on many times on bar tables and on 9 Footers. In your opinion, do you think do you think 3030 is too fast for a 6ft table? The reason I ask you is my local installer/friend stated that he "prefers" to only use 3030 because of its weight and its ability to stretch tightly. I personally think that 860 or Gorina Basalt maybe a perfect cloth for that smaller table because it would allow me better to ball control. Please advise if you can. Thank you!

Tour Edition 3030 is going to play almost exactly as fast as the 860. With that being said, both could be considered as a bit fast for a 6 foot table. However, given the lack of an even slower "professional" fabric on the market, it's about the best you're going to be able to get. I'm not a fan of Simonis. I personally prefer the Tour Edition 3030 (as an installer and player). As for the Gorina, I've never dealt with it. If you're considering it, be sure to do as much research as possible before making a final decision. Try to avoid the hype. And, most importantly, don't listen to "fanboys". If a player is giving you cloth advice, toss it out the window. Look for objective facts about the differences, advantages, and disadvantages of each fabric. Fanboys tend to get emotionally invested in their decision process. Once emotionally invested, they'll try to get others to follow them strictly for validation. In other words, make your decision based on facts and what's best for your needs. Not someone else's. Thanks for watching!!!

Thank you very much for responding to my regarding cloth selection. am going to go with the championship 30-30 as I am familiar with the cloth's durability, playability and quality. Moreover, if I wanted to switch to a k-55 cushion profile instead of my current U23, I can get off the shelf rails covered with 3030 from penguin for this 6-foot table. Ridgeback does not make rails for a valley 6ft table. FYI: Gorina Granito Basalt cloth is almost identical to 860...(88%/12%) but somewhat cheaper. Please keep your instructional videos coming! I wish we had more table technicians on the west coast like you! Gianni

Very good videos, I just purchased a very old dime coin Op pool table think from the late 40s early 50s the seller told me. Im keeping it in my unheated garage and its smaller 6.5ft by 3.5. Im very bad at pool but my brother is in leagues and is very good. He wanted me to get 760 Sim for when he comes over, what would you suggest being that its a small table in an unheated / cooled garage? Thanks for the videos helped me put this thing back together :)

In my opinion, 760 Simonis is WAY too fast for that little table! I would go with either 860 Simonis, Championship Tour Edition 3030 or, even better, the Championship Valley Teflon Ultra. If you aren't a good player, having that professional cloth is going to be wasted on you (no offense). It would be FAR better if you were to learn the game on a less expensive cloth and then, if and when you get better at it, go with the TE 3030 or the 860 Simonis.

I got a 9 foot brunswick. In a detached garage that is heated and cooled but will be economically heated and cooled. I'm in Kentucky climate wise. I feel like a pretty good player. Been playing for about 20 years. I'm mainly a 9ball and 8ball player but will be playing all the different games. Which would you recommend?

I would recommend either 860 Simonis, Championship Tour Edition 3030 or Championship ProAm. Any one of these cloths would be great for your table and the games you play. However, if your skill level is high enough and you've got your fundamentals down pat, then, you could narrow it down to the Championship ProAm. It's a bit faster than either the 860 or TE 3030 but not as fast as the 760 Simonis. My personal opinion is, unless you're playing on a snooker table, steer clear of 760 Simonis. It's too fast and it requires the player to have to adjust his game WAY too much when playing on one table vs. another. Look at it this way.... If you perfect your game on a medium speed cloth, it is far easier to adjust your speed and power to adapt to either faster or slower cloth. Conversely, if you perfect your game on exceptionally slow or exceptionally fast cloth, it's a much bigger adjustment (and learning curve) to play on the opposite cloth. Just my $0.02.

I just bought a gandy big g 38 x 76 the smaller 7'. I do play 8 ball apa rank 5 and upa rank 7. The table will be set up inside my home. What type of cloth would you recommend. Thank you for your help.

860 Simonis or Championship Tour Edition would be the fastest cloth I would recommend for that table. Anything faster than those two and you most likely won't be happy with your game play.

I've never used it. So, I can't give an educated opinion of it. I will say, though, of all the cloth I've tried over the last 30 years, Championship Tour Edition is by FAR my favorite!

Ok, I am building a pool table. I play 8, 9, and straight pool. I am marginally better than average pool player (I am clearly not delusional about my capabilities lol) The table is an 8 footer built as close to WPA specs as I can muster with with sub rails cut for k66 rubber. Few q's. Which cloth would you go with for me? Is worsted cloth worth the extra $? What rubber would you recommend? Not trying to break the bank is tough lol. Thanks!

I personally would get Championship Tour Edition. However, since you do play straight pool as well, then, you could consider their ProAm cloth (since it is a bit faster). As for rubber, I would say the same. Either their ProAm or Tour Edition rubber. Artemis rubber would still be overkill. Even pros don't really play on tables with Artemis. Simonis is good cloth. But, it's NOWHERE near as forgiving during the installation. Plus, in my experience, it doesn't quite last as long as Championship.

Does anyone have experience with Championships Pro-Am line of worsted cloth? According to their site, it is worsted but slightly thinner and less ounces, so I am wondering if it may be comparable to Simonis 860. Anyone?

Pro-Am is closer to Simonis 760. Their Tour Edition 3030 is closer to 860.

I'm looking at buying Gandy big G. It needs a new cloth. I have been in a league and rated a 6. However that was many moons ago. I am was hoping to get back in the sport. So what would you recomend?

My first choice would be Championship Tour Edition 3030. Second would be Simonis 860. Anything faster than that would be counterproductive.

You can try bankshotbilliards.com. As far as I'm aware, they're the only company in the country that restores pockets.

Bankpool : all scoring shots in the game must be made by banking a called ball off a cushion. Seems logical you want higher speed cloth to travel further over more cushions.

What do u think about the mercury speed felt as a less expensive alternative? Putting it on an 8 foot table. Ive been competing for 20 plus years and want to hone my skills during home practice. By the way this is on an outdoor table in Colorado. I have waterproof covers and water sealants on the wood. I know most large tournaments and leagues use simonis and diamond tables but I'd like to find a great budget friendly speed cloth. I really need to be precise with my English control and how it reacts on the felt when practicing. Any others u really like for my uses? Champ Invitational?

@@charlesvanloucks474 I would assume it plays relatively fast. I don't have nor have I ever played on an outdoor pool table. But, the Sunbrella cloth is the industry standard, go-to cloth for outdoor tables. I know it's the only cloth that will hold up under those conditions. And I've heard that there isn't much difference in the way it plays than with indoor cloths. I will say this though, it's a bitch to install!

@@charlesvanloucks474 Yes. I do. Just the extreme swings in humidity will either ruin indoor cloth or make it practically un-playable. There's a reason why we use indoor cloth on indoor tables and outdoor cloth on outdoor tables. Even though the Sunbrella is very difficult to install, it's the absolute best at handling outdoor conditions. Indoor cloth will become extremely loose with even a 40% increase in humidity. And, it can contract enough to rip itself from the staples or glue with a 40% decrease in humidity. The Sunbrella is a completely synthetic fabric. It doesn't expand or contract with humidity or temperature changes.

Usually a really good pool player will let you know what type of cloth he wants. First time in 30 years a high ranking league player didn't tell me what cloth he wanted.

Can you or anyone else here tell me if there’s a speed difference between tour edition and pro am from championship. Slightly concerned tour may be faster than what I’m trying to achieve, invitational a will be too slow for my needs.

Sure... Pro-Am is the faster of the two fabrics. Although almost as durable as the Tour Edition, it's thinner and faster. Personally, I find the Tour Edition to be a happy median.

First table as a teen had a carpet cloth, slow as a rug, nothing is worse.

It seems like a decent cloth. But, it isn't widely accepted in the U.S.. So, it's entirely possible that it plays completely different than anything you're used to playing on. If you get used to playing on it at home, then, you've got a an uphill climb trying to get used to playing on either Simonis or Championship cloths when playing anywhere else. Personally, I would stick with either Simonis or Championship.

What about editing out the profanity? Thought I was watching a family friendly video but then you dropped the bomb.

It isn't a "family friendly" channel. I never said that it was. This is a channel dedicated to imparting information about a subject relatively few people preform in the world. Although I try to keep profanity out of my content, I'm not perfect. Nor have I ever professed to be. I would find it a bit weird if a family wanted to sit around watching my videos as a form of "family entertainment". As for editing it out... I didn't even know it was there until you said something about it. You are the first person to have commented about there being a foul word there since it was uploaded over a year ago. The only way to edit it out would be to delete the video and reupload it. That's not going to happen. Far too many views on it now to let that go to waste.

I wanted to buy a Champion 3020 Pro Am 8ft fabric, the company is telling me they have that in stock, i recieved an invoice that quotes for: Invitational Teflon. My table is in a heated/ AC'd basement. I guess i should drop this business trying to cheat me.

I hate dark purple cloth and I’d bet that navy blue, black, dark green r the same, r very hard for my tired old eyes to see on, in the shadows of the rails the dark balls r hard to see for down the rail shots

I hate fast cloth. No control and no stroke needed to move the ball around 760 should only be put on billiards tables

Just need to be more delicate. But faster table gives more potential on the table.
