they are very clean animals, they groom as much as cats do - have seen it many times - actually i think they are cleaner then most people

Just rescued a juvenile out of my tall recycle bin. Happens sometimes. I usually put a sturdy branch in it so they can get out. Possums cannot jump. Generally very docile. I love them. They get a bad rap, but I LOVE them, help them when I can. I did read that in captivity you HAVE to make sure they get the right diet or they can be a horrible bone disease and it malforms their lets. Thanks for sharing Pooka with us !

Another possum enthusiast! Ours is similarly named...Pookie. She shares living quarters with her roommate Pepper. Both live indoors and are very content and well cared for.

Just too adorable. My new start in life, (2018) Opossums. Know they will be there always. Truly enjoyable to sit and watch them. My entertainment. Pooka is truly adorable!!

I can never get over how much their ears look like wax leaves.

Yes that's true people here in Texas are scared of vampire bats but I find them cute in their own way almost impossible to feed them or keep them as pets since they drink blood also you gotta be carful picking them up because of their wings they break to easily because its thin skin while opossums require a special type of diet also both these animals don't live long only 2 to 4 years

That sounds more like rats. I thought opossums live twice as long at least.

Ah, yes, that seemingly endless supply of opossum slobber..!! Know it well.. . Wonderful how they can take time to care for themselves in captivity, something of a luxury in some areas in the wild. She's a cutie..!

I had the experience of stopping highway traffic a few nights ago to get a little opossum out of the road. Luckily I didn't have cruise control on and the drivers who stopped were understanding of what I was doing. Very misunderstood creatures they are

yes definetly....unlike a cat who will seek out a litter box, let them poop where they want,then put a low sided box there (pizza box)and they will continue to use that spot.

The Virginia Opossum Fan Club is an older page but I update it with new stuff. I've considered just having the one page but I couldn't bear to shut down the old one. I couldn't guess how many opossums live in captivity overall. When one comes into wildlife rehab injured or orphaned and has some condition that wouldn't allow it to survive in the wild, it can be placed in education. Such was the case with Pooka, because she has no tail. And yes, she does use a litter box! :) :)

I dont get them as pets for 2 reasons, 1st we don't have em where i live, 2nd i can't be heart broken every 3 years
