    Thanks for this video! I was about to buy a teacup poodle pup earlier this month. I’m so glad that I found this video before purchasing the pup. But it’s really sad that the greeders keep breeding runts of different litters over, and over again. Thanks for much for this video ! 💕

    Love your vids! So nice to find an HONEST & INFORMED Poodle person! I was a Mini-Poodle Mom for 16, Yes 16 years! My little girl recently crossed over the "Rainbow Bridge". We will never forget her or stop loving my baby girl. When I recover some more, I want to find another little one that needs a loving, happy home in the U.S. Do you have any contacts in the States for HONEST, qualified breeders? In the North-East it's difficult to locate a trustworthy breeder. I hope these greeders continue to be identified and stopped. Thay are hurting these wonderful dogs. Thank You for all your efforts.

    I have had or been associated with poodles in most aspects of the breed for almost 50 years now so know a bit about them to say the least. THANK YOU for giving proper information to those who might wish to add the breed of my heart to their family. And as anyone who is lucky enough to be owned by this wonderful breed knows, it's all about the poodle, lol. I watched this video after finding the one you did about poodle color. My most recent standard poodle puppy come from a breeder of hunting poodles so she didn't do color breeding, only the psychical and mental side of the breed, and I'm trying to figure out what his adult color will be (I'm leaning towards blue). Show poodle were easier since they were color bred😁

    @@poodlemom First let me say that I'm not Frank but his wife Barb. Between a full time job, managing a household, and of course my beloved pets, I don't have much in the way of free time so when I do have a few seconds, I just go on the hubbies you tube page when I want to look something up. I love your idea about pure breed vs well breed, there really is a big difference and a very important topic, and one very close to my heart since last September, I loss my last standard to a genetic disorder just short of his 5th birthday and I'm still torn up over it, see, even us old timers don't have all the answers, but I did learn from it and your project might save someone from what I went through. But oh boy do you ever have a lot of work a head of you. I can give my opinion and some personal experiences I have had in my long association with poodles, but never will claim to be an expert, just someone who loves poodles, especially my beloved standards. Otherwise, I just want to say, I left my comment to you because I watched two of your videos and I can see that you are a true poodle lover to the point that you made it a point to get a true understanding of the breed and you are what the breeds need. You don't need to be a "show dog" person, not all dogs are show dogs, you just need to love and understand the breed, and you do. I just can not have a poodle in my life, I love them too much, and currently I have Banner, a 5 month old standard from a breeder of hunting poodle, and the apple of my eye, he's such a good puppy, healthy, happy, and so intelligent, raising and training him has been a joy, he's a poodle in all respects. But I'm also a dog lover. I always have an animal shelter dog. Currently that is Eustace, a big, black, scruffy, something. I've had him almost 6 years now and he's very much is my problem child, but I wouldn't trade him for all the gold in the world. And I promised my Mom I would take care of her little dog before she passed August 29th. Because my Mom lived very far from me, her illness happened very fast and with all the covid crap, I never got a chance to actually see her so never got a shred bit of info on the dog. She is some little, yellow, scruffy, mean natured thing I call The Little Dog, that is actually what I put on her name tag, lol. Even so, she has totally bonded with me and me alone and while we still have a lot of work, she really is a nasty little thing, and considering I never intended to have a third dog, I just can't imagine not having her glued to me at all times, lol. You can ask for my input on your current project and if I think I have something that will help, I'm more than happy to give my input. Otherwise, I really do think you have a good understanding of the breed of our hearts.

    @@frank5429 A pleasure to meet you Barb! And thank you for your kindness! I do really love reading comments like this from fellow dog lovers who genuinely love the breed. Bless your soul for offering home to rescues. I pray that in the near future I would also be able to do so when I have my own place. As of the moment, I could only offer helping out in the shelters and or offer donations with my situation. I am happy that the videos are able to portray my love for the breed. And thank you for pointing that out! We share the same thoughts on this notion of "experts," how, for one just because you show or breed does not necessarily make one an expert at one thing. Because lately, today, it just seems so easy for people to toss around the word, "expert" and tag themselves as "experts" even when they are just starting out. For the pure bred and well bred, yes! I would love your honest input in this. I know it's a lot of packed info as there is just so much to go about it, like discussing the basic history of breeding and how pure bred dogs came to be - for better comprehension or illustration of the whole picture. I think that's my main goal. I want to show people the bigger picture of the reality and how based on this- it is knowing these info that will be able to help people make better decisions and choices on bringing home and taking care of a pet.

  • @poodlemom

    @poodlemom

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi P S Newey! There is nothing wrong with Phantom poodles or any color accepted by the AKC or FCI. One thing to know about Phantoms is that, if they claim to be from "show breeding" lines, this is more than likely a lie because phatoms and parti-colored poodles are not allowed to be showed because the colors are actually considered a "genetic fault." So if they charge you an arm and a leg for the so called "rare" phantom color or parti-colored puppies, that's a lie if you look at it from a reputable breeder and show breeder's perspective. But, allow me to clarify that their color's genetic fault doesn't make them any less of a poodle. :) I'm just sharing what I know so that you are wary of the crazy Greeders. ^^ It's still really up to you to make you own calls. Also, be wary of the so called 'Merle' Poodles, because they are not purebred. To get such markings they are bred with another dog breed. Another thing to note is, the original colors of Poodles are actually just black and white if I am not mistaken. In the past, the other colors like the popular red color was considered a 'puppy milling' color and very unstable genes. But today, as more and more reputable breeders worked on the breed, their genes are much stable now- stable meaning- less health issues because they are finally bred properly. But, it's still good to exercise strong caution when dealing with any breeder from any part of the world. Hope this helps! Best of luck!

With regards to your comment, I'm not sure if you watched the whole video, right after I mentioned the PH following AKC, I did mention that we have started to change affiliation to FCI. Now, don't forget that there are other kennel clubs and not just PCCI hence my generalized points. But thank you for sharing that PCCI now follows the FCI that's good to know. :) May I know your sources though, does this mean you show your dogs?^^ I also agree and am very particular with how the breeders are because sad to say there are rarely any good breeders in the Philippines. Breeders should breed to improve and with this know the breed standard. But breeders here call breeding a hobby and I am not saying all, but many are just in it for the money. :(

    Hi poodle mom! Ive recently been looking at little doggos and i saw one breeder who has "tiny toy poodle" . I heard you say that a "tiny toy poodle" is a product of unethical breeding practices, does that mean that these little puppers are likely to suffer? • @poodlemom

    Hello! I only said that because there is no such thing as a tiny toy poodle according to any breed standard. Any toy poodle below a certain height is a toy poodle, period. People who make up such names clearly do not know or understand or maybe are just simply ignoring the truth to get a sale. Now, I think you are overly generalizing my words. I said, it is more often than not the case. But I never said it was impossible to have healthy "tiny" toy poodles so long as you do the proper research about the breeders. :)

    Former professional breeder of DNA and health tested toy poodles here and poodles sugar levels can drop very fast if they do not eat on a schedule or drink enough and toy poodles are not great at drinking enough. I have 1 left from my breeding program, she is 10 years old now, she typically weighs 3 1/2 pounds and she's extremely healthy. The others of her litter were between 4 - 8 pounds. There are nothing wrong with hobby breeders as long as they are following the rule of betterment of the breed. Too often, it is countries outside the US that have really destroyed the good genetics of the poodle breed. Never fall for the websites that show toy poodles with abnormally large eyes and tell you they're going to be under 2 pounds at adult size. It's a scam and those poodles are likely inbred and raised in horrible conditions.

I have a new toy poodle puppy that is 14 weeks old now and is just at 2 pounds. I am looking that he is likely to end up about 10 pounds. It all has a lot to do with the amount of food and treats as well. Poodles really should only eat twice per day. For toy's, I feed a little less than 1/4 cup twice per day. Hi Sarah! As far as I know, your Poodle may still fall under the category of Standards even if he or she exceeds the "limit" dictated by the kennel clubs. This honestly will only matter when it comes to choosing a breeding pup and or for show. If your dog will not fall under the "desired" standard, it just means they are not ideal for show and or breeding. Then again, I could be wrong but as far as I know, and logically this is what it means. I hope this helps! :)

    The picture of the teacup poodle breeding site you showed: I was actually so close to buying from there, but after more research, I think it is extremely unethical for me to do so just to have a tiny pet. I also hate breeding centres, most of the dogs end up getting put down or sent to shelters. I hate how people with teacup dogs are so defensive, maybe because they got conned out of paying the price of a regular toy haha. Sunk cost fallacy I guess.

    Thank you so much! Not sure if you watched the whole video, but there is no such thing as giant. The sizes are only toy, miniature and standard. :) As for the size, it will not dictate the health of the dog. Just because you get a toy, doesn't mean you'll get a healthier dog than if you had gotten a standard. Also, the size of your pup is really just out of your preference and lifestyle. For me, as of the moment, the perfect size for my life is a toy, hence, I have toy poodles. :) But that doesn't make toys better than the other sizes ^^ They are all equally amazing in their own ways. I hope this helps!

    There is teacup poodle in this world..but maybe your friend buy the fake one...because teacup poodle size is difficult to find..maybe in my country less than 5 ( I have 1)...there is falsely think about teacup poodle...breeders think that the smallest puppy in the litters and fit in a cup when they are 1 or 2 months is teacup...thats false. You can say that your toy poodle is teacup size when he or she at adult age ( 1 year)..not at 2 or 3 months old. And don't imagine this teacup dog is fit in the little cup when they adult... Adult teacup size as big as 2 months old toy poodle...and not all teacup have healthy problem...they small because their genetics..

    Hello..please give me a chance to explain this teacup size of toy poodle...there is teacup size of toy poodle in this world but its only a few who have them..because they only few so the akc didnt name teacup..only toy mini and standard. They small because of their genetics.not because the owner treat and do bad things.. There is false think of the breeders and people about this teacup size.. They think the puppy who the very small of the litter and fit in a cup is teacup...thats false. Teacup size is when the dog at the adult age...not when they are still puppy...because of that false think..the breeders who have very very small puppy thinking that their dog is teacup and they afraid the dog will big and then give them very little food...that the reason why "fake teacup" have healthy problem..and at 7 months old they grow big...thats because they are not teacup but force to be teacup..The real teacup still small even you give them much nutrition food and vitamin. Teacup is different from tiny...the height of tiny toy poodle size smaller than toy...maybe the difference of height about 2 or 4 cm...but teacup adult size only half from toy poodle size..its very little...just as big as your boot ...

As for aggression it would depend on the type of aggression your dog will display. I can't give you an educated guess without seeing the problem. But what I can suggest is providing a training structure for your dog. Aggression usually happens when there is no structure in the pack and the dog tends to take the role of the alpha in the pack. You have to become the alpha of the pack and you start that by having structure. ^^ For severe cases, it is best to seek the help of a dog behavior specialist. ^^ Hope this helps.
