Perfect for audiences of all ages, Ponyo centers on the friendship between five-year-old Sosuke and a magical goldfish named Ponyo, the young daughter of a sorcerer father and a sea-goddess mother. After a chance encounter, Ponyo yearns to become a human so she can be with Sosuke. As to be expected with Miyazaki, the film is awash in pure unbridled imagination and visual wonder - but it is the tender love, humor, and devotion exhibited by Ponyo and Sosuke that form the emotional heart of the film.

The movie that got me into Studio Ghibli in the first place. Ponyo was my childhood favorite movie.

@@YorgosL1 well, a first feature that led to Ghiblis founding. There were other films before this masterpiece.
The scene where Ponyo’s little sisters set her free and she turns into a human as they turn to fish is such an amazing scene of animation.

Also Noah Cyrus, Cate Blanchett, and Matt Damon! I'm really glad they didn't redub after GKIDS bought the rights to studio ghibli
PONYO LOVES SOUSUKE
Watched this many times when I was younger. So much of the imagery and sounds just came rushing back to me when I re watched it recently.
I remember seeing an paper about this movie in a dvd my family had when i was little. I had thought the movie from that paper was a weird dream until i found it on a streaming platform :)

Honestly, I've always prefered to see a Ghibli movie with the Disney logo instead of the GKIDS one. It's not like I dislike GKIDS' minimalistic design, but there's something about the Disney logo that really sets the atmosphere for the movie really well.

@@omarcogle1965 The last blu-ray editions were released in 2016 and it makes sense if you consider that the contract was originally signed in 1996, so it lasted for a good 20 years.

@@omarcogle1965 It was around 2011 when From Up On Poppy Hill came out. Disney didn't want to distribute the movie because they thought the plot was too mature for their audience, and so they sold the rights to G-Kids
