    Thank you for trying reining! I am a reining assistant in the US and you did a great job trying it. You can really see how much you respected the horse and your teacher. We love when people come from English disciplines especially dressage because parts of the seat transfers. But jumpers/eventers are also good because of their bravery. I know it may be hard to find close to you but maybe you would like to try the "western equivalent" to eventing Working cowhorse.

    I'm transitioning the "wrong way", going from reined cow horses to English dressage and show jumping. In Sweden where I live, there are so many preconceptions about western riding, most cant see beyond the saddle and the rest of the gear. But once Pontus had a few minutes in the saddle his focus shifted to the abilities of that amazing horse and listening to the teacher. Great stuff.

    As a Norwegian it can be quite confusing to hear your language, since it sounds like a proper mixture. Some German, some English, some Norwegian 😅🤷 But if you were able to understand a lot of Swedish then you would most likely be able to understand a lot of Norwegian as well. 😊

    @@JaneDoe-cv5th I think we "borrowed" a lot of words from other languages during the VOC time and made them our own or vise versa 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Because you are right that German, Norwegian, Danish, Dutch, Swiss etc al have a similar base. It would be much easier for me to learn one of those languages than for example Spanish or French because I only recognize may 1 word out of 8 sentences from Spanish.. If I'm lucky and the person who is talking speaks really slowly 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Actually that fit u very well and i think (im showjumper - jumping with horses simply my world) it would be nice for us to do that move often. It seems it put us out of our comfort zone and make us better in jumping and the "feeling" with horses. u should buy such an horse and do practice like 3 times per week and im sure u grow up even more with your sucess. At least it look like it would help doing that next to jumping with horses. I never did that but it rly seem good for "feeling" to horses overall :D I might be completely wrong with that :D What u gonna say would it make u to have a better feeling in jumping and horses overall? I do alot of reining, and the kids who come to my barn who were hunter jumpers made fun of the whole discipline and claimed it was easy before even getting on the horse. Lets just say one of them may have ended up in the hospital. This leads into what I was actually gonna say, if you're EVER going to try a new discipline don't make fun of it and also respect the trainer who has been teaching students their whole life. This is just in general not really to do with the video at all

    Ask the trainer how they get the horses to hold their heads nearly on the ground. I have heard they tie them down in the stable for hours. Western bits are vicious. The horses always look depressed.

  • @riderhugosson

    @riderhugosson

    2 жыл бұрын

    Tying down the head of the horse is not a good idea and not legal here in Sweden. Can not imagine how stiff such a horse would be.(DON’T DO IT) but a horse that is relaxed is not difficult to get to and walk low, long, round. I can do the same with my horses. Relaxed horse can be experienced by the less inexperienced as depressed. Horses are not as often depressed as many would like us to believe. But if you think something is wrong, the horse's body says much more than its facial expression

  • @tonecorneliusson1973

    @tonecorneliusson1973

    2 жыл бұрын

    This is definitely not true. Firstly: a bit is only as vicious as the hand controlling it. Quarter horses are in general more low-headed than warmbloods for example. In reining (as Pontus was trying) a horse that looks intimidated is never going to get good scores in the show arena. This is something that is always a constant subject for judges and show managers to try and evaluate if the horse is not looking happy doing what it's doing. Our rulebooks main rule is "The best reined horse should be willingly guided or controlled with little or no apparent resistance" - this is never achieved through violence since that would be, by definition, not willingly. Of course you will always have people in a sport (whatever that may be) using methods to try and achieve quick results but it's a huge misconception to think that that is how we operate in the sport.

  • @tonecorneliusson1973

    @tonecorneliusson1973

    2 жыл бұрын

    A small addition: This is why it's prohibited to show your horse with a nose band - opening of the mouth to try and escape the bit is considered resistance and is not allowed to be hidden by tying the horses mouth shut.

  • @jonjonwp

    @jonjonwp

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@tonecorneliusson1973 True about bits and hands but why use the vicious bits? The end results may look okay in the show ring but what was involved in the schooling at home. No doubt their are people training with good schooling methods but there is plenty of evidence that many horses are abused.

  • @tonecorneliusson1973

    @tonecorneliusson1973

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@jonjonwp I don't agree. Many judges are also trainers and can see through the results in the show arena. There's a huge discussion going on concerning one rider right now because it's believed his methods might not be clean and they wan't to take measures so that more riders won't copy it. As I said - I don't believe the bits are vicious, it's the hand controlling it. The bits have higher ports because the goal is to show your horse one-handed with a loose rein and give as small cues as possible. The bits makes this easier. It's also highly regulated what kind of bits you're allowed to use and all riders has to show their bit to the bit judge in order for them to control that riders aren't using illegal bits.
