That's amazing Gee! Well, they were doing great AND starting to bloom until we had a winter storm in February that wiped them out 😢. I purchased two new ones but different varieties. One of them already has a pomegranate so I'm excited what next year will bring.

Thanks for sharing. You and your trees are beautiful. Take out the commercial dyed woodchips and bring in FREE natural woodchips. Every time you water/rains the water pulls minerals out of the chips creating compost tea for your soil.

You'll get more blooms during the summer. My pomegranate is in its third year and it has bloomed in spring and summer. Apparently, they tend to bloom all throughout mid-spring and into fall once they become mature and established (~4 years).

Anyone know how deep the roots are? I've planted a pomegranate in a dug out courtyard that was originally the middle of the house. It's covered in 2-3 feet of soil, but is all rubble underneath. I've dug out as deep as I can, around 2 feet, but now there's too much rubble to remove. I've amended the surrounding soil, and plants and bushes are growing, but I'm not sure a tree can grow with just 3 feet of soil.

I’m not sure but I would guess that it can’t. I only know that citrusy grows well in containers. Maybe that would work instead.

You're going to find out that these two are way too close. Pomegranate are more of a bushy bush and not a real tree. You will need to have those two just like us in a Corvid line...6 feet apart.

I just came across this video and I was thinking the same thing. I live in the interior of Mexico and I have a 2 yr old tree. It is already 10 ft tall and 4 ft. wide. During the summer, we don't have a lot of sun because it is the rainy season and because it is young, it undergoes sporadic blooming, even now. So, in my experience, those 2 trees are far too close together. I have also had to trim mine several times in the last year.

@@lomogo01 With all the weird weather patterns all plants are confused. I have pear trees blooming after the first cool front came through...I suppose they think it's spring as the summer was so hot and wet.

@@j.dextersmith6421 I think that is part of the problem. I remember when we had more sunny days and rain at night in this region. Now, we have rain all day, several days and nights in a row. My tree has a few pomegranates and it is flowering now. This is not the season for them in Mexico! Weird. The days will remain warm, but near the end of December, the nights can drop down to about 40. So, we shall see.

You are right, they are too close. However, my plan is to treat them as one. Only allowing the outer branches grow and keeping the tree short. I don’t have intentions in letting the tree grow without trimming heavily. Thank you so much for your tips. I’m sure everyone on here can really benefit from them and decides what works for them. 💚💚💚

@@theryahliegarden Eggzackly, what works here in S.E. La. may never work in N.E. Tennessee or S.W. Oklahoma. Climate controls what has to be done to the bush or tree. When I run out of tricks, I call the local State/County Agriculture Agent and he/she will give me what works near me. I don't know if Lomogo01 has an equal in Mexico; but here in the USA most counties have a county agent or a state Ag Horticulturist paid to field questions and give insight unto us wanna bees who simply try and fail over and over.

Keep Growing Keep Smiling so essentially you treat them as one tree then? You had a little room between them and the next tree, I would move it three feet or so and make a “hedge”. My pomegranate trees are huge, 10’x10’ or so.

@@sylviaruth5008 I have 3 pomegranate trees in 3 different locations in my backyard so they have the room to go crazy. Be sure to give them sun, a little water and lots of air. Otherwise, they will not fruit, or the fruit will be defective (sour, crack, small, rot, etc). Try adding manure 1-2 gallons every fall when they drop leaves (around Thanksgiving for California). Just lay it around the trunk or dig a hole 18-24” from trunk.
