Polyurethane Casting
Ғылым және технология
This is my first attempt at casting a 3D printed part in resin. In the end I think I used a bit too much silicone for the mould, however I still have enough to make several more in the future. I will also try to pre-mould the alignment keys to prevent some of the flashing forming around the seam line.
Please note that this is not an instructional video. If you want a very good tutorial for casting, I recommend these two videos by BJB Enterprises:

The silicone and polyurethane I am using came from polycraft.

glad to see you back in the shop!! looking forward to the next one :)
He's back
That is very cool!!!
I definitely respect this.
Nice work 👍
Good job!
Alot of mold for small part. Instead of tape. Hobby store or walmart has rubber bands. Easier helpful Instead of funnel. Can use injector. Like off a food injector. Once you inject resin. Can suck up rubbing alcohol for cleaning it. I got some goof off residue remover. Gonna see how good it cleans it. I recently got a pressure pot. For removing air bubbles. Hope this helps
You could have made 4 moulds from that amount of silicone… :D Also if you have parts with a flat surface, you can just make it an open mould - then sand to flatten perfectly.

Since this was my first mould, I wasn't sure how much silicone was needed. The second version I made used about 1/6 the amount of silicone.

No worries, happened to me too :-) I also highly recommend some pigments. I use nail supplies from Aliexpress - they got some cool stuff, like thermochromic and all sorts of neon.

Yes, but it's much cheaper and faster in the long term compared to 3D printing. There are also no layer lines.
good job!
cool i like it thanks
I feel like that’s too big of a box for a simple mag release
Do you need to use a lot of silicols for a small cast?
Such a small part, so much silicone and resin. You could make 3 moulds and 3 parts with all that.

True , he made big mould. So much waste.
I used cling film to hold mould together, and a large volume syringe for injecting the resin.
nice
polyurethane its the polyester resin or its another ??? please answer me
Where did you get the vacuum chamber and pump? Do you have a link?

Good video, but too big the mould!!!
Why so much silicone for a tiny piece?
What p.u. cures in 30 mins?
A bit overkill for such a small piece don't you think?
Good man please I want this material of resin can you send me in Egypt Cairo please master I can send money please help me or thanks
Why is there a piece of wood holding one side of it up?

It tilts the mould so that there is a low point and a high point. It is best to fill with resin from the low point and vent the air from the high points to improve material flow and reduce air bubbles.

Ok, that makes sense. Thank you.
Could have made six casting from just the waste inside the funnel
Two part mold was not needed for something so simple.
I think hawki007 uses this technique when he he clear cast his parts.

Yes. When casting things in clear it's best to put the resin in a vacuum chamber or pressure chamber to remove any bubbles that make it look cloudy. With opaque parts like these a vacuum isn't really necessary, especially since the viscosity is so low.
am i the only who want to comment about his background music??
you need calculator man :)
Wasting of silicone and resin!
To much waste
