    this is so funny to me! I'm dutch and when we say 'nice to meet you' we say 'LEUK je te ontmoeten' if you would say ' lekker om jou te ontmoet' it would mean 'tasty to meet you' and if we say ontmoet we say it as 'ik heb iemand ontmoet' = I have met someone. ontmoeten is the whole verb. so similar, yet so different. very cool

    @@senbonzakurakageyoshi662 Afrikaans IS Dutch from very long ago. It did not evolve the same way as the dutch spoken in the Netherlands .

    Lekker does not necessarily mean tasty, sometimes it can be used in another context for example "Hoe was jou reis Kaap toe?" "Lekker Meaning "How was your trip to Cape town?" "Fun" Another example "Die wind waai lekker vandag" Meaning "The wind today is nice" Another one "Lekker slaap" Meaning "Sleep well" It basically just means nice, fun tasty, well, good, and so on. Just a word describing nice. I just realised this is probably not what you meant but I'll send it anyways

    This is the best attempt to speak afrikaans I have ever seen. I wouldn't even call it an attempt, most of the phrases were perfect even with the pronunciation. Just look at 11:17 the spelling is wrong, it should be "Dis 'n plesier"

    I dont know how, but I live in UK now and I haven't spoke afrikaans in a long time. In the UK there like very little sa to speak it to. Like 3% of people are from SA. I think it good that some SA don't loose it .

    Bong, Totsiens is almost the same as Auf Wiedersehen. The earlier form was Tot weersiens Untill again see. But that part eventually fell away.

    after some experimentation in google translate between afrikaans, german, english and swedish, i managed to interpret "bly te kenne" to "remain to know" - as in "don't be a stranger", and i find it heart warming :)

    The meaning here is not exactly remain but bly here means glad or pleased. Ek is baie bly. I am very glad. We also say Ek bly hier. I live here/stay here. Can you stay a little? Kan jy 'n bietjie bly? Languages are so wonderful.

    Bonjour super vidéo! Lindie est très pédagogique . J'adore l'afrikaans, une super jolie langue, parlée et ça on ne le sait pas toujours en majorité non pas par les Boers/Afrikaners d'Afrique du Sud (Descendants des Néerlandais d'Afrique du Sud) mais par les métis (populations aux origines mélangées souvent Khoï et San avec des Européens ou des Khoï et San avec des Malais). En outre il y a des traits de créolisation venus probablement du Khoï et du San , notamment dans la grammaire et bien-sûr quelques emprunts de vocabulaire.

    The people you are talking about forms a large portion of the Afrikaans speaking community, but they are not the majority of the speakers. They also have some fun dialects as well.

    So I happened to chance upon this video and I speak very little Afrikaans since twelfth grade when I had to learn it. There's this song called Dames by Biggy and there's this joke that some students can't pass their Afrikaans exam but they know all the lyrics to Dames. I know that's random but I just thought about that song when I saw this video. Also... your pronunciation is so good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Aangename kennis is pretty much dying out... except in really formal setting. 🤷‍♀️ honestly, afrikaans people dont actually say nice to meet you, like ever. I don't remember ever saying it... except when meeting english people when it's good manners. Just a tip for anyone wanting to sound like a native.

    Afrikaans uses the most same words as dutch, and dutch is in the prounounse the nearly the same as german. Pls make a video where you prepare some dutch words, cause i think you will pick up the language very fast :)

    Once a fellow Afrikaans speaker greeted me with "Bly te kenne". I thought the guy was Dutch or something, because many millennials simpy say "aangenaam" or even more brief, "ganit", which is short for "how gaan dit?".
