@@shanudamian Yeah. One of them is for the reverse gear input so it disables the auto-dimming functionality. One cable to each of the ORVM to dim those but we don’t get the auto dimming mirrors in the ORVMs.

I have a query, is there a possibility of installing this on Honda City 2013 iVTech model, where the rear view mirror is attached to the roof, not on the windscreen?

Hi Avinash. Yes, some of them have done it. They salvaged the mount from a cracked windshield which had come for replacement. You’ll find many of these in windshield replacement shops like Windshield Experts. Just extract the mount from it. The shop guys will gladly take it out and give it you. They’ll charge some 100-20 Rs but it is worth it. Mounts are not available separately and they come per-glued to the windshield.

Hi, many thanks for the feedback. The Amaze has the mirror mount on the ceiling not on the windshield. I would suggest you to visit Windshield Experts or a windshield repair shop and ask them for a spare mount from a Honda Jazz/City/Hyundai/VW Polo/Vento etc. All these mounts fit this mirror. Once you get the mount, stick it to the windshield using a 2-part epoxy glue like Fevitite or Bondtite. Let it stay for 2 days. Install the mirror. That’s all.

Your videos are amazing. I would like to know if I can change the 1st generation vento speedometer (red background) to the 2nd generation vento speedometer ( black background) If yes, is it a direct swap?

Hi Rishi. Yes this is a 1-to-1 swap but please check the cost of the unit with the dealership. If it’s something beyond say 20k, it doesn’t look worthwhile to me.

Hi Shiva. If the mounting bracket on the windshield is not a concern, you can install this mirror in practically any car. Please check the video. I’ve detailed out the wiring schematic. Please note that Honda has jacked up the price of the mirror to Rs 6500 from Rs 422.

Ganesh, is the mirror holder of SKoda laura same as that of Polo ? Just want to check if this work for SKoda Laura as well ?

Hi Ranjit, the mount does not have a separate part number as it comes glued to the windshield from the factory. If you need a mount, the easiest way is to get one off a broken windshield. Windshield Experts and other companies that deal with windshield replacements will give it to you for a small amount. Like 100-200 bucks.

Please remove the mirror and check if the mount is same as that in the Polo/Vento. It is likely to have the same mount.

Hi Superb Video, Got my mirror after 2+ months of waiting. Wanted to install on City 2010 model. But not able to source the mount (Old city comes with roof mounted mirror). Any idea where I can find the mount? If I wants to install on glass then those metal holding bracket is not available separately, usually all OEM's provides that pre install with glass so no separate part number. If you can guide it will be good help. Thanks.

Hi Harshad, the easiest way would be to salvage a mount from Polo or Vento or Rapid’s windshield at Windshield Experts. They’ll have plenty of cracked windshields from cars that have come for replacements. Take it from that. They may charge you some 100-150 Rs for the mount. It’s anyway going to be scrapped so they would oblige. Haven’t tried it myself but please do ask them.

Hi Anup, no with this simple +12V and Ground connections, engaging reverse won’t disable dimming. You’ll have to connect another cable from the reverse light bulb’s positive to the connector. I don’t have the wiring diagram to check which one is the exact pin for this.

Hi Ashwin, it is just a basic insulated 1 sq mm household cable. Nothing fancy.

In the case of VW Polo/Vento can we add a switch dedicated to this IRVM so that the battery doesn't take load whenever we start the engine? If so, what should be the rating of the switch used?

This is hardly any load for the battery dude. This is not like any amplifier for the stereo that draws a lot of current at the start.

From the stock connector, yeah. I’ve just retained the positive and ground connections. The rest weren’t used.

I have installed an autodimming mirror +ve connected to 42 of fuse box and -ve connected to body and it is switching during door open, if door closed it will get off. So is that necessary to connect -ve to orange wire near steering?

Connect it to a +12V supply that gives it constant power. The ground connection doesn’t seem to be the problem here. Check with an alternate +12V source? Maybe from the cabin light?

Is that orange wire in irvm for reverse signal?

Hi Subith, I’m not sure which cable is for the reverse signal since I don’t have access the wiring diagram. But one of them is. It disables the dimming when reverse is engaged.

Hi Anoop, the other cables are for reverse light input to disable the auto dimming while engaging reverse gear, one cable each for the ORVM on the driver and codriver side to enable auto dimming for the ORVMs. Unfortunately, we don’t have ORVMs with auto dimming capability so all these cables are dummy.

Hi Rajat, assuming both Hyundai and Kia use the same mounts, yes it can be installed. Remove the stock mirror from your Seltos and check the mount. It will have a Torx screw. You can remove it with a torx bit or an Allen key.

Can you make a video on installation of Low Tone Horn in latest iteration of Polo's? A.S.C.'s are stating different excuses. Planning to get from boodmo but being a layman I'm not confident enough in installing without proper guidance. I hope you will be making a video on it soon. It'll be very helpful.

Please check what is the stock mount on your Kiger/Magnite. If it is similar to what’s shown, you can. We realised a lot of car manufacturers use the same mount. 🙂 Who knows, maybe you’ll be in luck!

Hi Raghavendra, this is quite a simple upgrade. I’ve detailed everything I can in the video including the making of the wiring harness so you can follow that straight away. To check if the mirror mount from the Honda’s mirror fits the mount on your Crysta’s windshield, please check by removing the stock mirror from the Crysta. To check where you can connect the +12V supply for the mirror, check the fuse box inside the cabin. This may be located near the driver side dashboard.

Hi Shubham, yes you can take a tapping from the +12V incoming supply of the cabin light but please do the wiring properly without any part exposed.

Not required. The mirror fits into the stock mount and just the cable has to come out from the headliner which can squeeze through the gap. No cutout is required.

Understood. Confused it with the Honda OE mirror since this clip is on that one. When I had installed the Jetta’s OE auto-dimming mirror to my car, I had to cut a small triangle on the headliner for the cable cover trim. @GannuVerse Sir does it stay on all the time when it senses night outside? Or does it auto-dim when it senses a high beam? If it stays on all the time at night, does it cause any issues while reversing at night? (rear visibility during night etc)

The mirror turns dark when it is dark outside and if the sensor senses high beam from the trailing vehicle. Not always.

Check the fuse box of your Seltos. There will be both the sizes and you can use both - no harm there. If there’s a fuse layout diagram or something, check the fuse for the cigarette lighter receptacle. That one turns on only in the accessories mode.

Hi Parth, 1 sq mm is more than sufficient. Doesn’t matter if it is a little more. The mirror doesn’t draw much power. You can get the cables from these e-com sites that deal with robotics, hobby electronics etc.

Which border? This one doesn’t have a border. Some auto dimming mirrors do but that’s just a frame. Doesn’t add any functionality to the sensor part.

I did not check the Altroz but it did not fit in the Tiago. Tiago and Fiats use a same mount but different from the one shown in the video.

No this one doesn’t have that option. It is on by default but the dimming comes into effect only when the sensor senses the light from trailing vehicles.

Hi Amit, the mirror barely draws any power while working. A 2 amp fuse would be just fine. As for cables, I used thin cables from a multi-core wire; don’t have the specific AWG rating. The cable that connects to the fuse box is called the fuse tap cable.

Please remove that fuse in a slot 14 and plug it in the fuse tap cable’s empty slot. It is precisely meant to work this way.

Dude just get ask a sticker guy to do it for you. He’ll have a PC with him and get it printed in VW’s font. Show him the inscription from a pic. The OE one is expensive - Rs 2055 per sticker. 😂 Part number is 6RG8534331W4.

No clue about the font type. This can easily be done by those sticker guys in their PC. Take a snap of the sticker and show it to him. He’ll do the rest. Whatever font, size, spacing, reflective, carbon fibre, they’ll do it better than the OE sticker.

You’ll have to remove the stock mirror of the Compass and check the type of mount. Send me a picture of the mount, I’ll check and revert.

Sure thing. Please do send me pics of your mirror to ganesh.amrita@gmail.com. I’ll guide you on how to remove it. Some may require a screwdriver with the right bit whereas others come off with a slight push.

Unless you can source those auto dimming side mirrors, the rest of the methods like sticking an anti-glare sticker doesn’t work really well to cut down the glare. I really doubt if the Polo 6R/6C had auto-dimming side mirrors like the Passat.

Amit, get it at 6500 man. It is still worth it in my opinion if you do a lot of night drives. Your eyes will experience a lot less strain. The OE VW auto-dimming mirror I have on my car was sourced from Aliexpress for 12k odd back then. This is worth it.

It's price increased to 6509/-

Unfortunately yes. Honda realised the folly and increased the price. But even at 6k, I’d admit it still is a good investment. The OE ones for VW for example, costs as much as 22-24k for the auto-dimming mirror assembly.
