Pollution in Thailand 2023! Will it get better? 🇹🇭 Thailand
Bangkok has to deal with a lot of pollution this year. The AQI Level reached 182, which is in the red category. You can really see the polution at the moment in the city.
The smog is caused by the burning of the fields by farmers and when the weather is stagnant, the smog keeps hanging around. This takes place in the whole country. I biked around the SWU University and the Benjakiti Park. The smog effects everything.
This smog happens every year. Check the video i made in December 2020 : • Bangkok Air Pollution ...

Hi Heidi, nice to meet you as well. It was a great night.
Thailand, especially Bangkok is one of my favorite places in the world. I was there as a student at the International School of Bangkok in the mid 80's when it was located at Sukhumvit Soi 15 (Ruamchai). The pollution has always been bad in Bangkok and really wish the Thai Government would take a strong and strategic approach to the pollution from all of the sources. Thank you very much, GTM for posting this video and the Root the Future cause. I applaud the efforts and hope that one day, this can be a condition of the past.
Thank for this information. Looking forward to your next video 👍🏻
Thanks for the update Jeroen 👍🏼😷
Thanks for the update! Stay safe!
Thanks Jeroen. Always good seeing you.
Love the footage but some clarification; Yes, the 'burning season' adds to the smog but it is not the main reason. A farmer in East or West Thailand cannot be blamed of course for BKK air pollution. The #1 is traffic, #2 is the "27 coal power plants currently in operation emitting approximately 34.9 million tonnes of CO2 as well as large amounts of nitrogen oxide (NOx), sulphur dioxide (SOx), and other pollutants. Tiny dust particles, commonly known as PM2". The farmers add but are not to blame, they just need better support getting rid of their waste and more education. Taking the BTS helps, car-pooling helps, solar and wind power helps.

Bangkok should replace electrify the city's buses and utility vehicles, promote EV and electric scooters for residents. Building MTR is taking too long.
Awesome music!
Having the same issue here in Vientiane, Laos at the moment. So it's not a "Bangkok problem" per se., it's as Jeroem said, the combination of field burning and stationary air.
Hello GTM, thank you for the informationen. Looks pretty bad. We were in November in Bangkok there was the air by far not so polluted. Protect yourself and stay healthy. greetings from Berlin. i look forward to more v-logs. I love Bangkok.

It was just for a few days now that the smog was so heavy.
Hi Jeroen. Really bad that smog in BKK. I guess it s because the smokey season?! All the best from Guido
This is one of the reasons that I don't live in Thailand full time. The smog from the burning fields just continues to get worse.
By the Way the "Burning " Only 20 percent of the Smog, over 70 % is caused by Vehicles and Factories. NOT Burning.
No farmer wants to burn the crops, Main problem is Thailand government, government needs to provide help to farmers, help like give tools to send crops to fuel conversion factories etc....
We were in Sam Roi Yot and it was so hazy there also…….of course nothing like Bangkok….
The smog today is the worst I have seen in Bangkok. Hopefully the government starts making some changes to help the situation. I know that they can't stop other countries like Cambodia burning off, but they need to help/educate the local farmers. Also, getting rid of the old buses might help a little too...The market you went to is great though! I've been there a few times recently.

Yep...I can see it on the satellite map and it's coming from 90 percent of the neighboring countries in the central region by setting fires.
What's happened Bangkok today? It seems level pollution its like Jakarta city. Because many cars and motorcycle run away in every time. Thanks for best video 🙏🌿
The smog brought the heat back as well. Hopefully it clears up soon. Reminds me of Los Angeles in the 80's

Looks like Bangkok can use a good Santa Ana wind to clear it up. The smog in LA started to get cleared up in the 80's. The basin trapped all the pollutants and not as bad as when I grew up there. I touchdown in BKK on TH night. I'll bring my mask.

@@siamiam4306 Hopefully things clear up soon. I'll guess it has something to do with the rice fields being burned all over SE Asia
I was actually surprised by drone footage on your previous video, it look way clearer. I thought at the time, that's not bad for Bangkok. I think when the PM particles get too high they recommend N95 masks. When I visit for a couple of weeks I don't bother with masks outside, but if I lived there I probably would.
Very nice introduction to the market. The pollution in Thailand is very bad .
Do they measure oxygen concentrations? I heard it goes as low as 10% (from 20.8% normally at sea level).
We had really luck last week with the weather in Bangkok
That's sad and threatening. Will the condition persist in April? Any idea?
start of the dry season and the burning of forests? Does this happen in February?
So sad. I have a plan to visit Bangkok this coming april. 😷 i got scared now. Huhu
I saw this coming back from Pattaya and couldn't believe it.. never seen it like this before

How is air quality in pattaya? I would assume all is well as its on the sea and no smog and clean air. Atleast was always when i was there last 17 times
Oh wow
The Increasing Pollution and Smog is extremely Depressing, since I really wanted to stay in Jomtien for awhile. The Air Quality Particulate pm 2.5 are extremely small and toxic. Small Particles 2.5 can actually enter Your Bloodstream through Your Lungs and Upper Bronchial. I really don't want that risk. So Disappointing, will delay my trip to Thai until it clears, IF it Clears.
Zelfs Thailand heeft jammer genoeg ook zijn tekortkomingen. Is er leven op Pluto? Is er plaats tussen de sterren waar ik heen kan gaan.
I have been coming to Thailand for 30 years, happens every year. Government in incapable of doing anything about. Should clear up in 2 months or so.

We’ve been lucky last three years not much haze from the burning season in Indonesia and Malaysia because of the unusually wet period.
Wow 😯…that is some smog ..it’s getting out of hand 😢
Ah…. The fires has to be stopped. Really bad
Omg!!!
What are the Thai Government doing to tackle this problem?
The smog like This happens every year around this time it's not new. The rain keeps the levels down whe we transition and dry season starts it returns. Lived here 6 years

First off, I am from Los Angeles. So I know smog. LA is nothing like this since the early 1980s. This is a deal breaker for me. I was heading back to Thailand in March. Now I am rethinking that.

@@globaltravelmate Oh OK. I have seen a couple westerners talk about leaving Bangkok because of the smog in the last 2 years and thought this was a thing. Surprised to see Pattaya mentioned.
Most of it came from neighbors. often bring fog to Thailand by the wind blowing in.😔
Coming from a clean air country to settle in a city of smog is degrading yourself in terms of health. The pm2.5 particles are small enough to enter your lungs and blood system, don't you know? (From Singapore)

field burning all over south east Asia…?
Burning season in this region (Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia) every year.

Happens every year. It's called dry season
Looks like you're wearing a cloth mask, if that's the case, it's not filtering anything. Anyway, ozone is also a major pollutant in Thailand. It's a gas, so no mask would help.

Today was the worst so far this year for sure. The level has been high all day. If I leave Bangkok for good, the seasonal air pollution would probably be the #1 reason why.

No.3 of the worst aqi rank world air pollution this morning
Most came from Cambodia. I just went to Siem Reap for 4 days and saw every morning and evening each households will burn trash on the side of the road. I ask the resort did you smell burn he said no. They are using to it.
Thanks Jeroen for the information. Bangkok was ranked that day as the third city in the world with the worst air quality, behind Lahore (India) and Kuwait. The recurrence of this environmental problem is very worrisome.🙄🙄
It’s just a phenomenon, which will disappear again for sure, the reason could be the air pressure situation, but it looks scary no doubt 🔥☀️🌦💨
