In today's quick video I attempt to remove some marks from my pyramids using a mildly abrasive car polish, will it work? See what happens.

    Looks great!! The shine is beautiful! Everything you touch turns out fabulous! 🌹🌹🌹 I’ve been using Flitz Polish on resin with most excellent results.. I have tried every polish & wax imaginable and this Flitz (in the tube, 50 grams I think) is the best thing ever. But I also use it for molds that are getting a little older and need some help. It works on just about everything that needs polishing. Anyways, looking forward to your next. ✌️💯💯🤩💕

    My first thought about the lines is that you may have used a torch to get rid of bubbles. I went back and looked at an earlier video in which you created a pyramid - sure enough! That's what ruined your mold. I seem to remember you having a mold that stuck to a pyramid a while back - that is also from using a torch. It ruins molds. To get rid of bubbles, warm your resin on a heated coaster for a few minutes before adding the hardener or stirring. Use ONLY a heat gun - no lighters or chef's torches. Once a mold sticks to the resin, the mark from where you had to tear it away will always be in there, forever after. Seriously, you make some beautiful pyramids. I hate to see your molds getting ruined. That yacht pyramid is crazy-beautiful! I do believe you just may be the Queen of Pyramids!

  • @LouiseSingletonCreations

    Thank you, it wasn’t from the torch this time. I only use the torch for a split second every few minutes to protect my mould - that’s more effective than a heat gun and produces less heat. When it sticks- in my case anyway, it has been from too much exothermic reaction from pouring too thick. In this video the line on the pyramid Is from a kind of tide mark on the mould. The tide marks go all the way around and I think it’s from the natural ageing you get on all silicone moulds but because it’s been used for layers you see a contrast. I don’t know if that makes sense lol.

    @@LouiseSingletonCreations Makes perfect sense. I was amazed, just the other day, at how hot even a smaller pour can get. I started resining with a torch. No matter how careful I was, I still ruined a couple molds. They're just not for me. Again, I want to say that your pyramids are BEAUTIFUL! You truly are the Queen of the Pyramids... like Nefertiti!

    The secret to scratches like that is to get down to that depth first with coarse grits. There is a set of six or 8 sanding polishing pads on aliexpress or you can get other brands, they have what looks like a few hundred raised squares on a similar attachment to the one you have with lines around it to help air flow and to keep it cool so it doesn't burn. You probably need to go down to about 400grit, or maybe 240grit, do that until the whole thing is scratched up but the main scratch you are working on is gone. From that point, you go up the grits until all the scratches are about the same size, and they get smaller and smaller. Most sets finish around 1000-2000 grit and at the 2000 grit one you barely need to polish it at all. It does take a bit of time but your progress is more obvious. The other thing you can do, is thin another batch of epoxy with some mineral spirits/alcohol or something, (different epoxy types can be thinned with different liquids) about 10-15% spirits mixed in to a tiny batch, and then paint that over the top. I would say lay it almost flat on the side that needs done, put masking tape on the other sides to stop the drips going down it then paint it on, let dry, and repeat if the scratch is still visible. That way, as long as there is no dust in the air should dry with a perfect finish, but from then on a normal polishing compound like the one you are using would be fine. I have a question for you though, how are you doing your hollow out pyramid chambers?

  • @8thsinner

    @8thsinner

    @@LouiseSingletonCreations There is nothing wrong with looking for shortcuts. Just sometimes you need to dig a little deeper to understand the long way first. Polishing plastic is a lot easier than polishing steel or glass but it's the same process. The short cuts are when you can find normal products that do the same job for a tenth of the price of the brand versions

    Allistair Mateer ahh I was way off! 😂. Most of the painters tape is blue here. Kitchen roll is like our Paper towels.. disposable. Thanks 😊 I never wash my silicone cups or bowls. I flip them inside out & knock off most of the cured resins and then make tape donuts to roll around them. Same with molds- pull tape across surfaces before removing the pieces and do it again after removing the pieces for the inside edges as needed. I used to wash them but I had so much dust and things getting inside as they dry. And they wore out sooner.. maybe from scrubbing 🤔 . Packing tape & scotch tapes - the cheaper the better. Happy Arting! 🌹

    @@LouiseSingletonCreations hi louise it's true what im saying because I have been using resin for 50 years now and a professional with the stuff and highly experienced with it and also you will see that your silicone mould will start curling up as well from the corner where the resin is attacking the silicone breaking it down and not only that your finished work will come out of the moulds looking dull and cloudy because the super high quality shine has been removed from the walls of the mould leaving it dead looking basically and needs to be dumped in the end because it is blurry and every time you make something with the same mould everything will come out of the mould looking dull and cloudy because it has finished and will not leave a clear shine anymore so better off dumping it louise ok and I also have that plastic cleaner you have but mine is the blue cleaner and you have the red bottle but will make no difference once the mould is breaking down by the resin
