POLAND "We help the Swedish people, not government," says Dominik Tarczyński of the Polish government team Law and Justice, with the 139 fires sent to Poland by Sweden. He also opposes the fact that the Swedish government has previously marked rock hard against Poland. "Do not call us fascists or Nazis," he told News Today.
The extensive forest fires have become a hot issue in the ongoing election movement. Social media are criticizing Sweden's preparedness. It may apply to helicopters, or if Sweden should buy its own aircraft that can water bomb.
Several Swedish media say that it is thanks to the EU as the help comes, but Polish politician Dominik Tarczyński of the Government and Law team laughs at that statement.
- It's a joke. It has nothing to do with the European Union. It is our Polish hearts, we want to help. Everybody knows that, he says to News Today.
You would help Sweden even if the EU did not exist?
- Yes, we should. It is not about the European Union, it is not about structures, different agreements or different documents. It's about humanity, if anyone needs help, we're ready to help.
"Do not call us fascists or Nazis"
Sweden's official relations with Poland are strained, at least at government level. When tens of thousands of Poles celebrated their national day, Interior Minister Morgan Johansson (S) said that "he had to be kicked back" and he called the celebration for a "Right-wing Demonstration".
The outlook was anything but appreciated from the Polish side.

- Ja, det skulle vi. Det handlar inte om Europeiska Unionen, det handlar inte om strukturer, olika avtal eller olika dokument. Det handlar om mänsklighet, om någon behöver hjälp är vi beredda att hjälpa.

Sveriges officiella relationer med Polen är ansträngda, i vart fall på regeringsnivå. När tiotusentals polacker firade sin nationaldag twittrade inrikesminister Morgan Johansson (S) om att detta ”måste slås tillbaka” och han kallade firandet för en ”högerextrem demonstration”.
Utspelet var allt annat än uppskattat från den polska sidan.
