@Ed Straker Ukraine was under Poland, Sweden, Turkey and Austria before anybody even heard of America. Not to mention that Mongols nearly destroyed Ukrainian part of old Rus and the local people were generally replaced later by those who moved back from Poland, Bulgaria, Romania after the Mongols left. America exploits the old differences and feuds between any neighbour states (countries). The only way to end the war there is to move the fighting to somewhere else. Which means that either Russia or America takes control over Ukraine and they start fighting in another part of the world.
