Love the Northland. Originally from Otara, South Auckland, spent some school holidays in Kawakawa with the relatives. Had a weekend in Magamuka. Hitchhiked from Otara to Tekao for a neighbour’s tangi. Also lived in Pukenui for a year. Now living in Sydney, Aus. Great memories in the Northland.

Our police don't wear sidearms, which I know will change in the future, (unfortunately), but in the mean time, I agree that our police are very different to other countries police, especially American police. I admit I wasn't a very law abiding person when I was younger, but the majority of police I knew were genuinely trying to help me get my act together.

This is what real community police look like. I'm so proud to see some of these officers that have turned their lives around to become role models in our rural FarNorth communities. I went to school with some of them. They are down to earth people with big hearts. Not like the thugs that patrol the cities and definitely not like the American police who shoot to kill anything 😳.

This highlights the difference in cultures. for example the use of the words 'conflict of interest' never existed in Maoridom. We call it whanaungatanga and we embrace it. Just a perspective on differences within other cultures in other countries.

I was in the police for nearly 14 years it was ok when you worked with the community but policing has changed and native police will suffer because they don’t realise they are only working for a corporation- the government and police no longer are PUBLIC SERVANTS- they are money making and native police and others do realise it yet! I wish them luck when they figure out what they do may be legal but is NOT LAWFUL! There is a difference! Nga mihi!

You need to understand that police jobs need to be taken seriously especially when people are drunk, intoxicated and violent and people don't listen that's when they are going to use lethal force against the suspects

I was in the police for nearly 14 years it was ok when you worked with the community but policing has changed and native police will suffer because they don’t realise they are only working for a corporation- the government and police no longer are PUBLIC SERVANTS- they are money making and native police and others do realise it yet! I wish them luck when they figure out what they do may be legal but is NOT LAWFUL! There is a difference! Nga mihi!
