Chain cuffs offer more flexibility when applying cuffs if the suspect's wrists aren't exactly lined up right under the cuffs.

Another key thing to remember, do your research. Make sure that the handcuff that you are using is NIJ certified and it passes the strength test. A lot of fake handcuffs out there that looks like a real handcuff, but it does not pass the strength test. Someone that is stronger can pull them apart.

Both handcuffs have their advantages and disadvantages. If your looking for a bigger hinged handcuff, I would recommend the Peerless Hinged handcuff. It is by far one of the best hinged handcuffs I have used. The smith and Wesson is the smallest of the hinged handcuffs that I have used.

I learned to put on chain cuffs at the Dallas Police Department and we don't hold the chain cuffs the way a hinged cuff is. We hold them with the single strand on top and double strand on the bottom. Then there's a technique to placing them on.

I wouldn't touch your eye after handling your tuff cuffs unless you want pink eye. Those cuffs look freeking hanmered!! Great video bro 🇺🇸

I currently use the second set (s and w 300) as my primary and I love the hinge cuff. Just last night I had a guy with tight shoulders so I had to use 2 sets of cuffs. That stuff happens though. Great video, thanks

One reason my department used the chain style cuff still if our prison uses a teather attached to the cuff so we can make sure that the cuffs come out of the cell. The teathers cant attach to the other style cuffs.

good video, but how the hell did you completely overlook double locking. that plays a huge role in a lot of cuffing techniques. Take a look at the lever lock 100-1's from Smith/M&P, badass cuffs.

I actually had an assault in progress suspect that I tried to cuff with chain cuffs 😂 didn’t work 😮suspect got away 😊🎉🎉🎉 never used them since and I now have 2 hinged and a rigid cuffs

I've used the s&w 104 that uses a special key. But if you've got a set of cuffs that doesn't use the standard cuff key, throw them away. They're not gonna be rated for anything other than the bedroom!!

@@thatgeardude hahah sorry i was taught when someone is cuffed with hinges its different than with chain. with hinges the best I can explain it is like a girl holding her books in front of her, but obviously their arms will be behind and the hinges, instead of being parallel to the ground they will be perpendicular to the ground.

In my opinion the Tuff Cuffs aren't worth it. I bought 2 pair and returned 1 in working order. The other one seized after the double lock was pushed in the wrong direction. If they were on someone they would had to be cut off. My 2 cents.

Was told to blow some aerosol gun cleaner/lube all up in them right outta the box. Also found a few drops of oil (like Bro said) during routine guns and gear cleaning helps too... especially after bio scrubbing the hiv off.

As a former defensive tactics instructor, I never recommend the ASP handcuffs. First of all, I would never recommend a handcuff that has key holes on both sides of the handcuff. That's just common sense. Officers safety. It gives the suspect the opportunity to get free. Secondly, when applying the handcuff, I seen it happen and there are videos on the internet of the swinging bar ratcheting around and missing the lock and it bends goes onto or below. So the officer may think that it is properly applied, but it is not. And then again, the suspect can get free.

A note, granted on a comment that's multiple years old. The modern ASP handcuffs, their Ultra, and Ultra Plus lines are polymer lined metal instead of polymer, I have a pair of aluminum bow ASP Ultra 3-Pawl Hinge cuffs as my primary handcuffs as a Corrections Corporal and I've tried to bend the bow out of line, and the most I can do is get it to knock into the frame, but I've never gotten close to sending it past the frame. And in my experience (granted in corrections not Law Enforcement) someone's more likely to shim the cuff rather than pick it. So instead of worrying about double sided keyways I went with a cuff with a 3 pawl design to make it harder to shim. That's just my two cents tho and I get that people disagree with me

@@JEST3R_ Thank you for your comment. As corrections, I agree that the likelihood to shim a handcuff will be greater because the likelihood of an inmate having a handcuff key is very slim. But in law enforcement, out in the street, the likelihood of a suspect having a handcuff key is greater. So a single sided handcuff keyhole would be better. I wish that it had the best of both worlds, a single side keyhole and a 3 Pawls. Or a high security handcuff, that only allows 1 set of keys to open the handcuff... plus 3 pawl system.

@@JEST3R_ i will say that the one thing about the ASP handcuff that i do love is how smooth the ratcheting system is. It is super smooth when applying handcuffs onto a suspect.

They are cool, though a bad idea for liability reasons. The reason double locks are on handcuffs is in part to prevent the person clamping them tighter and claiming police brutality and sue. But with those cuffs they can twist themselves into a painful contorted position and claim you did it and you have no way of proving you didn't do it. You can get the same decent prevention of moving the cuffs to the front using the hinged model you have in a rear stack as you turned around and demonstrated the hand position. It works the exact same. I would NOT recommend those cuffs to anyone but collectors or people into locksport.

i can see that but unlike some departments, we have body worn cameras and those cameras have to stay on from the moment we make contact all the way to the jail. any false claims/allegations are quickly dismissed after they way the video.

they should come out with aerosol handcuffs, the officer sprays the suspects hands while together behind their back and the adhesive cures almost immediately then when they want to release it the police have a special release agent that dissolves the adhesive
