Amid a groundswell of support for Palestine and Gaza on university campuses in the United States and elsewhere, police have cracked down on protesters who refused to vacate the Columbia University campus in New York. Many students have been suspended as university authorities promised to take disciplinary action against demonstrators who have stood their ground for days, demanding that the university divest from companies supporting the Israeli government. Campus protests have spread to other universities in the US and beyond.
