Brilliantly made Jon and especially loved the Nick Larkin comment.. I’ve been fortunate enough to have been pegged next to him a few times and without being creepy (I hope 😬) watched him closely and he’s really smooth and almost effortless on the pole feeder , .. perhaps you’d consider venturing over to the Yare on one of the festivals one day and meet up with him, you could do a video together 🤔 “Jon meets…” it would make a great series…. it’s a great river 👊🏻 thanks again Jon , something different 👍🏻

Its a nice tactic on the right day
Neat method, used to do something similar in the 80's on the sincil drain and Witham. The difference was I used to balance the feeder or bomb and fish it stret pegging style with a bow in the line so they hooked themselves against the weight, bites were sail aways. The pole was a flick tip only so no elastic. Would use a peacock quill piece flat on the surface. It also used to work for gudgeon in the trent in flood.

I remember seeing that style of pole feeder many years ago. I even did a feature with Roger Wakenshaw fishing a tiny feeder on a whip on the Witham!

Well another great video Jon. I will definitely trying that method on the ribble when the weather settles down. I think it will be a great method on the ribble for the roach chub and dace on liquidised bread in the feeder and big punch on the hook the roach go to 2lbs on the stretch i go on average about 8ft deep. Once again jon great video and footage keep them coming tight lines 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣👍

hi John, thanks for your repIy live in France and 90% of my fishing is tackling the many rivers particularly the Seine and the Yonne in my area feeder fishing is predominant but also Bolo to cope with the deep and usual . During the summer with less water on big stick and waggler up in the water is possible but to get through the bleak😂( like sardines out here ) to the better roach dace and odd larger chub can be costly on the bait front . Tried feeding heavily with more hemp but soon as you put a caster or maggot on, even double it’s a monster bleak a Chuck and all day . What would you do??
@JonArthur
7 ай бұрын
Sorry I missed this. If the bleak are piranhas there are only two boats I tend to use. One is a tare and the other is half a worm. However, you could also try feeding the bleak shorter with cloud and pinkies and then fish beyond them over potted in balls. They home in on any noise, so feed and leave that line.
A very pleasurable & interesting few hours Jon

Loved that Jon! I've not fished that for many years but it's always caught me fish when I've tried it. I remember that Nick Larkin article with the elasticated quiver tip on the broads - must have been in the old Angling Plus magazine in the very late 90's as I was still in my teens .I tried it not that long after that I reckon and had twelve roach for about 10lb on a very out of sorts river Cam.

@@JonArthur What can I say did you enjoy the zap ⚡️🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ Me and my spelling 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Like this method Jon and have even used it on a still water with great success. Rig wise you mentioned external elastic section, found this great when fishing for smaller fish, better indication, setup about 6in of 5/6 elastics and 8in of 8lb line tied between a loop and Stonfo. Don’t like using heavy main elastic so 10/12 for 20gram inline cage feeder and less chance of it coming back smashing your pole tip.

Got to say mate you are looking well Love the term"the gentlemen's rest" will be using this in my videos from now on. would you ever use this method on a commercial say down the margin?

Hmmm, probably not this way but we used to do it on the pole, swinging accurately up to islands. Thats gone out of fashion now.
Well interesting mate,cheers,see you at tunnel if you're going to be at the individual winter league starting match👍

Used to use a maggot feeder ( block ends ) for dace on a flooded thames in shield matches !
@JonArthur
7 ай бұрын
Im sure that'd be good but dace bites are a nightmare!
Another great video Jon as always. One question - how do you plumb up to establish the length of your rig? By float initially or just trial and error with the feeder rig?
@JonArthur
7 ай бұрын
Cheers. I just tie the feeder rig on with a bomb on and then keep reducing the length at the tip end until it’s just the right height for the swim 👍
I've tried on the Severn at Shrewsbury when the river has been fining down couldn't get my head round it. Will try again though

Ayup John ,enjoyed watching this bud very interesting method , now my question is I have a 10 metre margin pole , do you reckon I could use this pole and this method to fish for big barbel on the rivers ,I realise it will be chaos if I latch into one 😬😬💪

Good video Jon, could you use a flat float with this set up?
@JonArthur
11 күн бұрын
Possibly, although getting the mechanics just right would take a bit more adjusting and the feeder would shot the float, not traditional shots/olivettes above it. Id personally set up a flat float and a pole feeder and swap between the two setups.
