I understand that peter mckinnon is a friend & colleague but the best verifiable VND's on the market are the NiSi True Color ND-Vario series. Their are plenty of videos on youtube comparning them to polar pro's and NiSi's are verifiablly better in terms of color shift.

Everyone should watch Philip Bloom’s ND comparison. Nisi comes out in that one too.

Curious if the photo version of the ND is good on the polar pro. I don't need the VND

Definitely saw a more noticeable color shift on the 6-9 stop VND at 5:44. Too bad, they're marketed as the best VND out there but the shift is (almost) a deal breaker, especially at this price. The NiSi True Color performs better, but there's no option (yet) for a 6-9 stop version. Not an easy choice.

The NISI seems the best VND according to multiple reviews .... but the more I watch ND filter systems reviews, the more confused I get.

This polar pro system is trash 😂 lol. I explain why 1. Freewell done this already and the glass is much better quality. 2. Takes more time 😂 with all the polar pro pieces. The system flawed. You think u save much time but realized you just got conned 😂😂Total gimmick. 3. Moment cinebloom is universally agreed as the best defusion filters besides tiffen pro mist/prism fx dream filter. In 6th place, are these poor quality polar pro mist. There's been comparison videos to prove this. 5. Even the blue and gold anamorphic style filters has already been made by moment / prism lens fx and it had proven to have shown a more natural beautiful result. The polar pro version lacks sharpness and often would not even show what is advertised.

Hi awesome video! Can I ask what filter do you use for shooting outdoor? how you make 2-5 stops corectly exposed on sunny day? When do you use 6-9? Thanks!

Hey Tyler, thanks for the walkthrough. Do these new Helix VNDs have detents at each stop, or do they freely rotate between 2-5/6-9?

How does it compare ( including with wider angles lenses and photography) to the new Freewell k2 vnd, the Nisi vnd true colors and the kase Wolverine revolution vnd ? ( those seem to be the very top vnd, mostly magnetic filter, except the nisis) in terms of optical quality, colorimetry etc

Question: So there is one, big size filter and that is stepped-up to with the adapter rings?

I prefer to use fixed NDs but changing them is a pain. I need to look into this system.

  • @Rashadmcka
    @Rashadmcka11 ай бұрын

Have they changed the actual ND? I noticed my polarpro VND had a far more blue glare at times than my freewell, to the point I don’t even use it anymore as it was a pain to correct. :( also, I really wish manufacturers would go to 6 stop.

No CPL for this system? Also, if I need more than 9 stops, is there a fixed 10 (or more) stops filter?

I would love for them to have a compatible lens hood/matte box for this, but am sad that would probably only eat into their other recently announced PM VND matte box system. This just seems like it has more flexibility and potential.

I have found that the Polarpro mist 2-5 has severe green/cyan color shift. Are you sure your white balance was fixed when doing the color shift test? If so, maybe the problem was fixed.

I'm undecided if I like/hate the "base plate" (step-up ring adapter)... I don't see any options other than 77 & 82 base plates on their website order (although it's written in the text). Are these not available yet?

Literally what I was going to comment - i spent £500 on two the second edition VND’s last year, my only gripe with them is switching out takes too long and I’ve been missing shots! Would love to just adapt what I have to a magnetised step up ring… hhhmmm

I love the McKinnon VNDs and wanted the mag lock system but I got it and it adds way too much weight to the front of the lens. It’s very noticeable in comparison to the old ones 😔

these are nice, one really big downside tho: The price I ordered the pm vnd II, but 1 day later this came out so I cancelled the II and ordered Helix. I thought, what the hell its almost the same price as the II. But then i needed to buy 3 adapter rings for my lenses, about 60 euro's , the shipping wasnt free which I understand, but it adds another 35 euro's. And then I got the tax invoice, 250 euro's from DHL. Ofcourse PolarPro isnt responsible for tax pricing but why does it need to be that high?! Ive ordered from places all around the world with the tax being like 10-50 euro's. Just warning people in europe for this ''problem'', anyways I really like the system itself and used it on my vacation and thought it worked perfectly. Total price came down to about 675 euro's, was it work it? Jes but if i knew before i wouldnt have ordered this.

The Problem with Peter McKinnons Filters is: Try to use them filming cars. The colors will change very much. They are pretty much unuseable in that case. Especially when you are not the only one shooting and have to edit in other footage that used true color nd filters. ND = NEUTRAL density. The Peter McKinnon Filters are far from neutral.

I just cant stand color shift and I see it there. I stay between the C70 and the Fx6 to avoid using variable filters. These seem solid, but I just hate using them.

I just can’t see a use for these. Polar pro makes good stuff. Maybe not the best in every category but good stuff. I love how lightweight the badecamp is. But I don’t think I’ve ever needed a filter change fast enough to shovel out this much cash for it.

The major problem with polar pro vnd is when you shoot a dark water ou a black shining car overcast, it will ruin your footage. The blacks turn to yellow and that can’t be fixed. No one talks about that, because all this videos are sponsored.
