This is the brand new Grit X2 Pro from Polar, which is aesthetically my favorite watch from Polar, and it comes with some exciting news. And this news is not just about the Polar Grit X2 Pro itself, but also about the Vantage V3. The reason is that it concerns a firmware update rather than a hardware change, and this firmware update will come to both the Grit X2 Pro and Vantage V3. In fact, the Grit X2 Pro and Vantage V3 are very similar, having identical electronics and software, with the main difference being in housing and design. In this video I will first concisely describe the new Grit X2 Pro and what it can do. After that I will share some details of how this new algorithm works. Now, I am not allowed yet to test it in this video, but of course we will put it to the test once it actually comes out. Finally, I also discussed with Polar why I was getting relatively bad results with the sensor set in the Vantage V3, which is the same as the Grit X2 Pro, and of course today I’ll also share what we found. Plus, I’ll show some more testing of the Vantage V3, including some quick tests on Theresa, since it turns out I might be the problem. So, let’s get started and talk about the new Grit X2 Pro hardware and firmware.
First off, a disclosure, Polar sent me this sample of the Grit X2 Pro for testing, but they did not have any influence on this video or on my opinion, except for some fact-checks I asked them to do. Also, this video will be a bit different from my normal videos, since we are not allowed to do any testing yet. However, what I can do is show you some graph-drawings that represent how the new algorithm will work. And I can also show you some new testing of the Vantage V3, which has the same electronics. Finally I can share what Polar said when I shared my V3 data with them. However, first, since the Grit X2 Pro was just announced, let me briefly share the 10 most important things to know about the Grit X2 Pro!
Polar is set to release two distinct models within its Grit X2 Pro series: the standard Polar Grit X2 Pro in night black and stone gray, and the premium Polar Grit X2 Pro Titan. The main differences between these models are in materials and aesthetics.

Good to see a follow-up on the Vantage V3, and probably another one to come following the release of the new software. I was a little put off by the original HR performance, and it would be good to see an improved performance. It looks as if they're fairly confident of that!

Hi Rob. I'm looking forward to your review of this device once you are able to thoroughly rest it. I lost my Polar Ignite, and I'm looking at this as a candidate to replace it. The other watches I'm looking at are the Casio GBDH20001A and Casio GPR-H1000-1, both G-Shocks. What makes the GPR-H1000-1 interesting is that it's running Polar software. Could you possibly get ahold of and compare and review these G-Shocks? I'm curious to know if Polar software runs just as good in other devices as in polar, and if the H10 strap works with the G-Shocks. I can't find information if they do or don't.

...though I loved Polar back then with the FT80 and later the V800, they always had their quality issues and shortcommings... They got overpaced in features and software by garmin and the wave of smartwatches since the mid 10s... So this looks finally like their first great "catch-up" watch... Hope they will offer great accuracy, quality of metrics and software-algos!

My experience with polar products I've been using polar products since the late 1980's and since rcx5 I've been disappointed The 800 series was junk I had 4 of them I have the vantage V1 and V2, the optical tracking is terrible and I experienced similar results as you have on the version 3 model. On hot days and I sweated alot the heart rate is very erratic. I use a loop track which I measured with wheeled measuring device and is 1478.3 m, the polar device would measure it at somewhere between 1430m and 1465m, while the other devices I would use would be consistent to within 5 m Polar wants to charge a premium price for the product and it is fallen well behind the competition Thank You for the reviews I look forward too them each time

As a fan of the Polar Verity Sense, I’d really like to see Polar up their game on the watch front. They are making a big leap in terms of the new price point for this watch. Had it a MSRP of 20%, customers would be more willing to roll with its issues while Polar gets the instability figured out.

    1. How good is the HR monitoring for people with a darker skin? 2. Could you expand on the underlying mathematical model used for comparison with other devices? If it's purely timestamp comparison w.r.t. the reference, then the 'correlation' might get terrible results while a simple time-translation might yield really good data (think of lag in timeseries).

Hi Rob, I've just updated to the v2.0.19 FW the V3...let's see but now I have no hopes anymore. Might be that the V3 is the LAST POLAR for me. I have enough! Not having all those watches you have but still some of those that I've tested, liked or not. The V3 is the worst HR device I have EVER seen in last years, compared to other Samsung, Huawei, Fitbits...referencing to the H10 strap of course (FW 1.3.5 in my V3 up to this morning). For the sleep tracking, I don't know. No reference to compare (like the H10 for the HR/HRV)...I don't have the Apple watch (and maybe better as up to what I see in reviews I'll be even more frustrated ;-) ). The only good thing with the V3/X2 is the orthostatic test option, but I'm doing it with the H10 and V3, as well as HRV follow up with the apps like the Elite or Kubios, much more accurate/reliable. RIP Nokia, oups POLAR 😢...I really would like to give one try more and like it...let's see in next 24h as it's wrong HR is so evident that it shows up almost immediately (luckily ;-) )
