POKHARA || GUPTESHWAR MAHADEV CAVE || DEVI'S FALL
Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave is considered the longest cave( 2950) in Nepal. Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave was discovered in 1950, however, the entrance of the cave was built recently in 1991. Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave is nearby Davis Fall and the water of Davis Fall passes through this cave. You are recommended to take your own torchlight during your visit inside the cave, however, there is a proper light installed by the management. Lost power backup might cause trouble during your tour so it’s recommended.
Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave carries the historical importance of where Lord Shiva is being worshipped by the pilgrims. There are gods like Lord Shiva, Parvati, Saraswati, and Nageshwor.Inside the cave, there is a Shiva Temple where taking is the picture is strictly prohibited and it’s been monitored by security guards. The attraction of this cave is one of the biggest Shiva Linga where devotees pay homage to Lord Shiva.
During your visit to Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, you are suggested to walk slowly where the path is slippery due to the drip of a waterfall from the cleft. Senior Citizens and children are not recommended to visit this place due to the low light and wet narrow allies. The waterfall at the end of the cave is the wow factor you can experience in this day tour. If you have a couple of hours and want to spend your time then Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave is definitely a worthy destination to spend your time in Pokhara.
Devi's Falls (Nepali: पाताले छाँगो) is a waterfall located at Pokhara in Kaski District, Nepal.[1][2]
The water forms a tunnel after reaching the bottom. This tunnel is approximately 500 feet (150 m) long and runs 100 feet (30 m) below ground level. On 31 July 1961, a Swiss couple went swimming but the woman drowned in a pit because of the overflow. Her body was recovered three days later in river Phusre with great effort. Her father wished to name it "David's falls" after her daughter's name but changed to Devi's Fall. Its Nepali name is Patale Chango, which literal meaning is Paatal Ko Chango means "Underworld's Waterfall".[3] This is one of the most visited places in Nepal.
After exiting the tunnel, the water passes through a cave called Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave or "cave beneath the ground". The Phewa Lake dam is the water source of this falls.[4] The cave also acts as a tourism site because it has complex designs and people even forget the way inside the cave.
It is an attraction for tourists and locals. Thousands of Nepalis visit for recreation and enjoyment. Visitors can try their luck on the luck pond constructed there by throwing and placing the coin on the statue of God. Likewise, one can find a model of traditional typical Nepali house and a series of statue of Nepali people wearing traditional dresses where visitors can click photo
