So the best advice he gives is to chip up as soon as you possibly can, where a significant profit is achievable at a much lower EV rate. I played 3/6 at the casino this weekend, and it was utter child's play. It wasn't so much that the players were bad (although they were) as it was an unprofitable situation for nearly everyone at the table. With rakes that significant, probably only one player in six left with profits. I made a modest haul of $50 in about 20 hrs of play. I'll try 6/12 next time

Good advice --and oh so true...I play the 3-6 and the 4-8 tables to me it is just a fun thing to do once every couple of months or so...I win some and lose some ,but was told the stakes are raised in the evening when the pros show up..

He's partially correct. I disagree with him about not being able to beat a 4x8 game. I see people beat that game everyday, myself included. Not everyone at the low limit games are clueless. There are sharks at every table.

Did you miss the part about the rake? Over 100,000 hands, the rake will eat your win rate, perhaps, all the way. Unless you have rakeback, or you're a prop, he isn't sure if the game is beatable with a $5 drop every hand, not to mention tips. Anyone can beat any game 1 time, or even over a long short run.... but that doesn't mean the game is profitable... even for good players.

The game I used to play was with a full kill and it was very beatable. I've since moved on to higher stakes though.

I think it's beatable as well. The low skill level at the table more than makes up for the high rake

In 4-8, what I like to do as small blind or big blind, is to build a huge pot by raising pre-flop with anything decent, if 7 or more players are already in the hand. Also be aggressive at the flop. If you’re on a draw, that might buy you a free card on the turn, or at least prevent a turn raise, if the turn card doesn’t complete your draw.

Damn...if Jimmy says the rake makes it impossible to win at low limit, then I guess it is. All this time I thought my suspicions were simply justifying my shitty play. I mean they still are, but not to the degree I thought.

Sure you could make money playing 3/6 if your opponents are very bad (which they probably will be), but when the rake is 10% and you're tipping about another 5%, you'd have to earn about $1.17 on your wagered dollar just to break even (to say nothing of the white chips that you're using to tip the waitress). Playing with something better than a 1.17 expected value ratio is hard to do even against the worst of players. To earn $5/hr, you'd probably need to play at 1.40 EV on your wagers.

He was saying u can't beat a 4-8 game that's got a 5 dollar min. rake per hand which is really high... that's 50 bucks a round on a full game.... that's a lot of money being removed from the table...

  • @xfactorb25222

the 5$ rake is from the pot, not each player like an ante. So he's saying if your stealing the blinds, which is where you make a lot of your money, they will be a total of 6$-(2$ small/4$ big)..but the rake is 5$, so you're blind money is 1$. The only way to make money is to have action on every hand.

+jonthemagician666 The rake in most casinos I play is 10% of the pot up to $5 per hand. I have been in 3-6 limit where the pot reached over $115 and the rake was only $5.

okay so let me get this straight. He says "he is not even sure if 3/6 or 4/8 is even beatable". Because of the rake. So how would even know anything about 4/8. This proves to me he hasn't beat 4/8 /w kill. And I have seen people make anywhere from 200-500$ in a night on a 4/8 table. I've done so myself. I don't agree with this guy at all. There not poker players.....I am better then this kid at Limit Poker.
