TCG player is great, but remember: shop where you play! It’s worth a few extra cents to to support your LGS so they keep running Pokémon events and keep getting and maintaining their PTCG collections and communities. Shop where you play when possible :)

The #1 thing I'd suggest you do if you are a brand-new player to the PTCG is play the online game. It teaches you everything, and you play against other players who might teach you a thing or two through their gameplay. It's how I got into it.

Code cards. You can buy codes at online stores like potown store, scan them in, and then trade them for cards you want in the public trades.
i was looking for your channel as a player who was going strong pre-covid before the scene got killed. just gotta say your content is top tier and its made it so much easier for me and hopefully my mates to get into the game

This man is right - this is a fantastic time to play Pokemon! Get creative with deck building, play with fun or interesting or competitive cards, and join what I feel is a great gaming community locally AND nationally (and internationally)!
This guide is very helpful, coming from a person who's mainly played Yu-Gi-Oh for most of his life. I found this to be very informative and my friend introduced me how to play the game and with this video it helps to refine what he said a bit more clearly. Thank you.

Wow!! Thank you so much!
This was very helpful! Thanks for the awesome video.
In addition to being inexpensive I love how it is also inexpensive from a time investment standpoint. No need to constantly pass actions during your opponent's turn. There is also no need to prepare an extensive team complete with the perfect stats like you need to in the VGC(I know Smogon exists but this issue still persists for official play).
I'd argue that Live is actually a better way for Newer players to get into because you immediately get Arceus Lugia

I agree. I only got back into Pokemon, with no cards and never played the card game, a couple of weeks ago and started with online and must have got about 50 free packs online (completing trainer challenge, versus, etc.) by just playing. I mean I am not great and my deck probably is average at best but I am winning games and can atleast understand what is going. All without spending any money.

As a brand new player, I’m using both Online (to play theme decks) and Live (to play standard). Is there a way in Online to use in game currency to “buy” specific singles like how I can use the hexagon currency to get specific cards in Live? What is the best way to acquire cards in Online to build a standard deck?
@zigster1298
Жыл бұрын
‘Live gives you access to more meta cards, sure, but it also has your opponent’s cards facing the wrong way, doesn’t immediately show your full deck on searches, and is still full of bugs and freezes, at least from my experience on Mac and IOS recently. This Friday it just straight up wouldn’t open at all! Haven’t tried since. What Celio said was, ‘I can’t recommend new players to start their journey with ‘Live, and I wholeheartedly agree, because it is not reliable, and does not recreate offline play as well as PTCGO. I know PTCGO isn’t perfect, but it’s still a lot better than ‘Live at the moment, sadly.

So happy to help. Let me know if you have further questions :)
Got into the game just a couple of weeks ago (pokemon tcg live) and really enjoy the game. This was a great video for me. As it is now, I'm playing mostly Blissey V (the starter deck), but afaik that won't survive rotation, any tips on similar decks? Now I just wish I could find players and events close to me as I really want to play with physical cards too.
Yesss Man thx for this Video
This is super informative ! Especially the rotation explanation. Would it be better then to sell (as bulk) the cards that are no longer legal for standard format?
thank you for this
How about playing older formats from before swsh? I have a bunch of BW and XY cards that i can probably build a deck around. Another question: can you use swsh cards in scarlet/violet formats?
Tcg Live is fine? First I heard of any issues, apart from a bug telling me I've logged in somewhere else (I haven't) and having to log in
Just discovered your channel and absolutely love it. I was wondering if you could recommend maybe 4 current standard meta decks that would be good for my friends to play in a pod. I've been looking hard to find decks that would be relatively balanced against eachother and I'm going to pick some from your top 10 list, I just don't know what the best 4 would be
@CeliosNetwork
Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. I’d say Lost Box w/ Sableye Charizard snorlax, mew vmax (either variant), palkia Vstar / Inteleon, and Regigigas. In standard format everyone is trying to beat eachother so decks often are built with the other meta decks in mind, but I think this would be as even as a spread of decks while still using good decks.
@CeliosNetwork

Also these decks in ranking of easiest difficulty to hardest (in case some of your friends are newer) would be Regi easiest, Mew and palkia in the middle, lost box hardest.

Does your discord perhaps have a ping for when regional sign ups go up? That's been the most frustrating & difficult thing about wanting to compete in this game since the pokemon company is very inconsistent & bad a communicating when it comes to sign ups

I'm gonna start pokemon on this 31th march. I come from yugioh, bored of banlist and money wasted on every reprint. Thanks for the video bro, got the sub and like
Sold my whole yu-gi-oh collection and joined Pokémon TCG. The competitive decks and cheap and do not break the bank like yu-gi-oh or magic. Thank you for the video :)
I'm a bit confused on cards I can use from older formats, aside from basics. for example, can I use a nest ball from sun and moon, a set not included in the rotation because it exists in the current format?
Very good report Celio. Okay presenter number 2 please prepare. 🤣 Jokes aside, very informative video for new comers. Personally, I would buy decks and cards after the rotation happens for longevity of usage.
How do you trade? Or buy individual cards?
If u have 4 of the same pokemon and 1 of these gets knocked out. Can you use another of the same as normal or will the other 3 be made redundant?
Do you know of any communities who play base-fossil (or other retro formats)?
What if I am only a Gym Leader Challenge player? I have gone through 4 different card games and I very much dislike rotating formats. Do they do tournaments for GLC or is this only being done at local game stores?
@CeliosNetwork
Жыл бұрын
GLC is a fan format made by Tricky Gym, and it is in the Pokémon rule book now but it’s not meant to be a competitive format. They do side events for GLC at most regionals and ICs! But they aren’t in an official capacity for points or money.
"trying to make a homebrew rogue deck and they're frustrated" I feel personally attacked.
Wish I watched this before buying up boosters and boxes.😅
Is the Psychic Calyrex League Battle Deck a good starting point? Or is it likely to rotate soon?

I’ve been looking into getting back into competitive after about a 7 year break, but it turns out they don’t do smaller local ways to earn championship points anymore, are they bringing these back? Or are we just expected to go to only the huge events? Don’t really get it

So I revisited Pkmn TCG hobby as a casual about 2 months ago. Not sure if others share similar opinion with me. Since I am not planning to spend competitively, my aim is to build a deck that would age well into the extended format. Partly also I live by the Pkmn motto of using your favourite Pkmns, rather than chasing after hype or meta. For me, fun is when I can relive my childhood team from the main series games into TCG.

Pokemon Decks are insane cheap. Im a Competetive Yu-Gi-Oh Player and Tier 1 Decks are very very expensive
"affordable" hah... in eu these packs, cards and bundles are way more expensive than in amuricas and japan.
The heavy focus on trainer cards turns in modern PTCG turns me off from tournaments. Sure it's a great strategy but it's broken and doesn't make the game fun.
@WeebHutJr
9 ай бұрын
How is it broken? I hear other people say this, but I don't understand it. It makes the game more fun because you can build a deck around specific pokemon that you want to use, and get to playing them right away. Instead of just hoping you draw the right cards as each player passes turn. The game has always been about this, way back when you could have 4 Oaks, 4 Bills, 4 Computer Search, etc.
@0:43 I know this video is going to be tons of BS. The winner of the tournament, no 2nd, no 3rd, no 4th, no 5th, no 6th, no 7th place only costs $45. WTF? This is equivalent to saying, "do you like losing, well pay $45 to not win and have a fun time being a sucker." I'm sorry, but the fact that you ignored that this dude probably spent $100,000's just to perfect his $45 deck is completely ignored by the video.
