Pokemon Prism - ROM Hacked

Ойындар

So let's imagine for a moment, a new, updated Gameboy Color Pokemon game; perhaps with things like a customizable character, Fairy typing, a run feature, and MUCH more.
In the world of ROM hacks, this idea isn't so impossible. And as a matter of fact, even more than that was crammed into Pokemon Prism, a ROM hack sort-of sequel to Pokemon Brown, another fan-made Pokemon game.
Brown was a trend setter back in the day for Pokemon rom hacks; setting a gold standard that many Gameboy Pokemon rom hacks would need to match to some degree to be taken seriously.
Prism, which expands on Brown ten-fold, is the product of incredible labour and highly determined fans. Adam V, or, “Koolboyman” was basically working on Prism for 9 years before it became a Rainbow Devs project.
Rainbow devs blasted through to the mainstream with the trailers of Pokemon Prism; it was getting hyped before it was even released.
Too much hype though, to the point Nintendo and the Pokemon Company, the benevolent and beautiful corporations they are, decided to issue out Cease and Desist orders to the team, hoping to kill the joy of fans hoping to play a game that these conglomerates couldn't make a buck off of.
Even free advertising isn't worth it to these companies... somehow.
Despite all that, Prism still found itself a release, and full release at that; with a giant wide open collection of regions to explore, and a storyline that actually has interesting turns, but still feels like a classic Pokemon game.
Even going to prison, which is a thing you do in this game by the way, feels... Pokemon, if that makes any sense.
The thing about Prism, is that it doesn't seemingly stop. It's got so much content that you can really tell this is a rom hack aimed at the truest of die-hard Pokemon fans.
People who want a new kind of Pokemon experience, with new legendary Pokemon and new enemy teams, new types and battle dynamics; all while cultivating that Gameboy Colour era legacy.
Which, if you played Gold, Silver, or Crystal growing up, likely has a special nostalgic place in your heart.

Great review! In hindsight, I completely agree with the puzzles. I think there's good ideas behind them but the execution could've been a lot better, and I wish I had the opportunity to fix those problems. Same with the HMs. If I were to do that now, I'd make it so multiple moves could cut down trees. Such as Slash or Razor Wind, or even just let fire moves burn it down. I could go on and on about problems in Prism, including several that aren't mentioned in this video, but it is what it is and I know better now. And if most people can look past them and still enjoy the hack then I guess they're not as awful as I think they are. I'm my own harshest critic. Rainbow Devs are doing a good job continuing to keep it alive and well after my involvement with it ended.

It's a real honour for me, for you to watch my video. Your hack is fantastic and I think it's one of the best, if not the best, GBC Pokemon rom hack out there. A brilliant region, with brilliant interconnectivity. The sheer amount of content is staggering. And trust me, I completely relate to being my own worst critic. You have nothing to be ashamed of, though. This is a Pokemon game that stands toe-to-toe with official software, and even out-does official releases. Seriously impressive work. Be proud of the incredibly fun, highly refined experience you (and the others who helped) made.

@@anotherblowncartridge Thanks, and absolutely no problem, you made a great video! I gave Prism my all, despite being mostly self taught in game programming in design. The experience I gained through developing Prism's helped me through my life, through all my successes and failures with the project. Summarize what I've done after Prism, I joined the game industry as a programmer for about 5 years, spent a little time at EA as well. After that I moved to Chicago to help my friend with his startup, and I have two side projects I'm working on right now: A new game and a cartoon pilot I'm producing. Coral and BW3 Genesis are the best ones besides Prism. Coral for all the new stuff and BW3 because the story is crazy for a romhack. Grape is gorgeous in the visuals but the story doesn't take itself seriously and the game's got some TERRIBLE puzzles, way way worse than the ones in Prism. Brown is also good but, well, nothing incredible. It's better than the gen 1 games tho.

I remember playing this game a while ago. I got pretty far into it (At least the 7th gym), but I never finished it. I think part of it was because the Legendaries bugged out for me and they wouldn't roam properly, leading me to be unable to fight them. I'd like to go back to this game at some point though, cause I remember it being really good (That being said, I have hoarded so many ROM hacks at this point that its genuinely hard to pick and choose what to mess with. Listen, you sound young so I'm sure you don't quite get it, however HM's are important, yes they stink and are a pain but Pokemon didn't use to be easy. You couldn't get a magical team of Noctowl on standby to fly you wherever you wanted or buy a gold bottle cap to max all the IV's of your Pokemon and finding a shiny was something to be proud of. So all Im saying, especially for a game trying to replicate the older Pokemon games, the HMs need to be there. Overall good review of the prism hack though minus the HM thing lol.
